Post Cyclone Debbie Update

Hopefully your break for the school holidays and Easter was relaxing and enjoyable.

As you probably have heard, Courts 1, 2 and 3 at McDonald’s Mackay Stadium sustained some water damage from Cyclone Debbie – which extended to the playing surface and electric scoreboards.

Mackay Basketball, in conjunction with the Insurance Assessors, are going through the processes of inspections and obtaining reports from the appropriate qualified personnel regarding the extent of the damage. While this process is taking place Courts 1, 2 and 3 will remain closed.

While this is only an estimate, we are hoping to reopen the courts for the fixtures on Wednesday, 26 April – but this could change and you will be notified of any change to this on Monday, 24 April.

With our fingers crossed and all the boxes being ticked for the safety of all using the facility the only round of fixtures we will lose will be on Sunday, 26 April.

There have been a few enquiries as to when fixtures will recommence - which is great to see you are looking forward to playing again. All fixture dates for the Presidents Cup were released before the season started and posted on the MBI website – and due to school holidays and external bookings – there were no games programmed from Sunday, 26 March until Sunday, 23 April.

Please be reassured that we are doing everything in our power to reopen all courts and return to business as normal – but as I’m sure you can appreciate, the safety and wellbeing of our players, referees, spectators and guests is paramount – and therefore we appreciate your patience at this time.
