FIRE DUO TO JOIN THE GLOBAL PRODUCT SEARCH METEORETTES

The Global Product Search Meteorettes have secured the services of WNBL Townsville Fire duo Micaela Cocks and Chevannah Paalvast for the 2017 QBL season.  In a huge coup for the club both Cocks and Paalvast have signed 1 year deals.

Both players are currently completing the WNBL season with the JCU Townsville Fire and are hoping to defend their title in 2017. The Fire currently sit fourth on the WNBL ladder.

“The signing of both Micaela and Chevy is huge for this program and we are extremely excited at the roster that we have put together this year for the Global Product Search Meteorettes”, Wade Rebetzke said.  By securing both players we have given the team great versatility for the 2017 season.

Micaela can play both the point guard and off guard positions and shoots the ball extremely well from the outside, as well as being an excellent on ball defender.  Micaela has great leadership skills and we will look to her to provide some leadership to a number of the younger members of the group.  She has the ability to direct a team around the floor or shift to the shooting guard position and stretch opposition defences out with her ability to shoot the 3.

Chevy can also play a number of different positions but we have earmarked her to start in the 3 spot for us providing us with good size in that position.  Chevy has the ability to knock the 3 point shot down and also score the ball in the paint and will complement the other players around her. Her ability to defend multiple positions will also give the team great flexibility during the season.

“Both Micaela and Chevy are members of the New Zealand Tall Ferns national team and are quality people that we are happy to bring to the program.” Rebetzke said.

Cocks said, “ I am extremely excited about the opportunity that I have been given to play for the Global Product Search Mackay Meteorettes.  I have heard nothing but great things about the program and I can’t wait to get to Mackay to meet my new teammates and prepare for the 2017 season.  I am very excited with the group that has been put together and think if we put the hard work in we can be very successful this season.”

Paalvast was also excited to be coming to Mackay.  “ I am very happy that I have decided to make Mackay home for the 2017 QBL season.  There is always a great atmosphere at games in Mackay and I’m looking forward to playing in front of the great supporters the Global Product Search Meteorettes have.   With Jacqui Zelenka and Micaela Cocks being Fire teammates I think it will make the transition a lot easier and I’m looking forward to playing with the playing roster that both Wade and Carl have put together.

Both Micaela and Chevannah will join the team at the conclusion of their WNBL commitments.
