The McDonald’s Mackay Meteors are proud to announce that they have secured the signature of Cameron Tragardh as their player/coach for the next two seasons.  After much deliberation in regards to the position Mackay Basketball are extremely happy in their selection to lead the McDonald’s Meteors forward in 2017.

First of all I would like to thank the efforts that Ken Furdek has put into the program over the last 3 years and we are hoping that Ken will stay involved with the program, Business Development Manager Wade Rebetzke said.  

“In making this decision we believe we have secured not only a fantastic coach but also the best big man in the QBL.  Cameron’s knowledge of the game is second to none and his passion for the QBL has been there for all to see over the years.  He is a huge reason the Cairns Marlins took out this year’s title, averaging 22.2 points and 9.8 rebounds for the year.” Rebetzke said. 

Cameron also brings professionalism to the program, understands how to engage with the community and will be an integral part of our association moving forward.   

Tragardh was also extremely excited about coming to the McDonald’s Meteors.  I have always admired the way Mackay has run their program and I am extremely excited about leading this team forward for the next 2 years.  Our ultimate goal will be to win a championship and I believe that we have the necessary tools to get that done. 

Tragardh is keen to get moving with recruitment for the 2017 season so you can expect some player announcements pretty soon.  He is not looking to change to much however, as he believes that we have more than enough talent in the Mackay program to get the job done. “ It is extremely important that we keep the core group of guys together and if we need to add some extra pieces that’s what we will look at doing,” Tragardh said.
