BAKER BACK TO CHASE THE TITLE

The Townsville Heat have taken a huge step towards their pursuit of chasing NBL1 North glory today confirming the signing of American import and back to back Championship winner Justin Baker.

Baker who is currently averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds a game for Al Sadd Doha playing in Qatar put pen to paper this week and is thrilled to come back to Townsville to chase another title.

“Playing in Queensland has always been an enjoyable experience for me and Townsville has always been the best place for me to play. It’s not just because of the championships I was part of but also because of the integrity and professionalism of the club”, said Baker.

“I have come to love the city of Townsville as well as its people”.

Baker is also excited about the partnership with the NBL and that basketball at the State level continues to grow and become a pillar in the sports community.

“Obviously this growth will have made the competition stronger and having a successful season will be much more difficult than in past seasons but I have every intention of making a finals run this coming season.”

Baker now refers to Australia and more pointedly Townsville as his second home and can’t wait to get back down under again.

“I am really excited to have Justin back in on our roster for the NBL1 North season.  He was an integral part of our 2017 and 2018 team and another guy that adds to our championship culture”, said Head Coach Rodney Anderson.

“Bakes has played all around the world and has been a legitimate star in some big leagues in Europe, so to have him choose to come back to play for us in Townsville shows a lot of faith in what we are trying to accomplish on the floor and what Townsville Basketball is about.”

“Justin is still on the radar for a number of NBL teams with his inside/outside offensive game mixed in with his versatility on defense but from a coach's perspective I love his professionalism and leadership.”

The Townsville Heat have advanced discussions with another key signing in recent days and hope to announce more signings next week.
