QBL PRE-SEASON HITS THE ‘VILLE

The Dennis’ Computers Flames and Beehive QSolutions Heat get their pre-season kick started this weekend when they take on the visiting Cairns and Mackay QBL teams at Townsville 106.3FM Stadium.

All of the action gets started on Saturday morning at 11:00am when the Dennis’ Computers Flames take on the Mackay Meteorettes, this will be followed by our Beehive QSolutions Heat taking on the defending QBL champion Mackay Meteors at 1:00pm.

The Meteors and Meteorettes will be back on the floor at 7:00pm on Saturday when they take on the Cairns Dolphins and Marlins in a match-up of two of the traditional north conference power clubs.

The pre-season weekend wraps up on Sunday with match-ups between the Dennis’ Computers Flames and Cairns Dolphins at 11:00am and the Beehive QSolutions Heat taking on the Marlins at 1:00pm.

While still very early in the pre season it is a great opportunity for both of our home town teams to gauge where they are at against two quality north conference opponents. With the Mackay Meteorettes boasting names such as Jillian Haughton and Rachel Allison from their triple premiership teams our young Flames are certain to be tested against such a quality opponent. The visiting Meteors return Chris Cedar and TJ Diop from their championship run in 2015 along with talented local Brad Rasmussen and Mitchell Gamblin.

As impressive as the Mackay sides are, the Cairns Marlins arguably have pulled off the recruiting coup of the off-season with the signing of NBL veterans Cameron Tragardh and Alex Loughton. Both will be in action for the Marlins this weekend and are sure to test the front court of the Heat. For the Dolphins the very talented Rachel Pryor and Jade Kennedy lead the Mark Worthington coached team.

This weekend will prove as a great test for young Flames back court dynamos Anna Mackay and Tiarna Wood against some of the finest players in the QBL. Both are expected to play big roles for the Flames in 2016 in head coach Brady Walmsley’s up-tempo system.

Heat frontcourt partners Matt Rees and Luke Brennan have been joined once again this year by Jackson Todd and Townsville Crocodiles development player Harry Froling to form one of the deepest frontcourts in the league. All four men will need to be on top of their game against the Marlins and Meteors to control the glass and set the tone for our 2016 season.
