Shooting Technique Clinics

Basketball Queensland ran a series of shooting clinics throughout South and Central Queensland this week, with Basketball Australia Master Coach Ian Stacker as the lead coach for the sessions. Ian’s passion, attention to detail and love for teaching made the shooting clinics a huge success! Coach Stacker had a positive impact on the players’ approach to shooting the ball, helping them understand the difference between the set shot and the jump shot, and on how to train for each. He assisted the athletes with getting their shot off against bigger and more athletic defenders, and he provided a resources for the players and coaches of all levels to use to improve their shooting technique.

High Performance

Scott Butler, State Performance Manager – Queensland North, this week visited with the Rockhampton U18 State Performance Program athletes and ran a coaches clinic with the Rockhampton rep coaches on the read and react offense. Scott made two visited to Gladstone this week to train their U16 State Performance Program athletes, and also participated in the shooting clinic in Gladstone.

Aussie Hoops Progress
There have been three new clubs born out of Aussie Hoops this year in the metropolitan area and a few more are expected to be launched in the new year. Both the Northside Wizards and South West Metro Pirates have reaped the rewards of developing a presence in the schools through Aussie Hoops. The North Lakes Hawks and the Chermside Redbacks entered teams this year at Northside and the Calamvale Cannons are making some noise winning their first club grand final at South West recently.

2014 will see more Aussie Hoops activities across the state, keep an eye out for updates in the new year on how your association can get involved.
