STATE & EMERGING TEAM COACH AND PLAYER SELECTION PROCESS

Coaches

Applications are being sought for Head Coach and Assistant Coach for the Under 16 North & South State teams and the Head Coach and Assistant Coach for the U15 Emerging teams.

Basketball Queensland coaching selection committee will review the applications, short list the preferred applicants, engage in an interview with the shortlisted applicants and make recommendations to Basketball Queensland’s board for ratification.  

In general coaching applications are received from those people that have the equivalent coaching experience at a National or State level or have a strong coaching track record. Basketball Queensland is always looking for interested coaches to be groomed into a State team Head Coach, this is generally through a position of Assistant Coach, Development coach or Emerging team coach.


Note: Anyone is entitled to apply for the above positions although it is policy not to consider any person for a coaching position in a team if they have a relative or conflict of interest  with a player eligible for selection in that team.

 
Players Selections

In January 2014 the U16 State team player trials will commence, the players are expected to attend a minimum of 3 trial sessions prior to the selection of a squad.

In January 2014 the U16 State team player trials will commence, the players are expected to attend 4 trial sessions prior to the selection of a squad. A squad of 25 athletes consisting of the State and Emerging team players will be selected.  In the South this squad will train once a week (Tuesday’s) up until the final teams are selected at the conclusion of the U16 State Championships. . In the North  trials will be held in mid to late November and a squad of 25 athletes will be selected, the squad will attend weekend camps up until the final team is selected at the conclusion of the U16 State Championships.  All trials are open and conducted for players wanting to be selected for the state or emerging team. 

The Head Coach, in consultation with his/her Assistant Coaches and the State Performance Manager, will select an initial squad of between about 20 and 25 players depending on the number trialling and the overall talent pool that year. The final teams will be selected in consultation with the State Performance Manager.
