General Manager - Position Available

Townsville Basketball Incorporated (TBI) is the largest Basketball Association in North Queensland with approximately 2,000 members, located at Murray Lyons Drive, Murray. TBI operates year round with competitions and events running 7 days a week, between 8am and 11pm.

TBI is the leader in basketball in North Queensland, and under the overall direction of the Management Committee the General Manager will be required to ensure that TBI continually challenges the status quo to ensure that TBI is delivering services that meet or exceed the expectations of their customers (their members). The General Manager will also seek opportunities to grow revenue through commercial partnerships, sponsorship, streamlined processes and grants.

The General Manager will ideally be someone who has demonstrated skills and is extremely well versed in:

  • Delivering quality customer service and dealing with a diverse range of people;
  • Developing the skills of staff and volunteers;
  • Time management;
  • Organisation of people and resources;
  • Communication (written and verbal);
  • Seeking commercial opportunities;
  • Management of a business, in particular financial management ;
  • Working in a very fast paced and dynamic work environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Management of all TBI operations;
  • Manage the delivery and strategies of the TBI Management Committee;
  • Set and ensure adherence to customer service standards;
  • Unsure that the delivery of all competitions and events conducted by TBI meets or exceeds customer expectations;
  • Communications with key stakeholders;
  • Oversee the management of the TBI finances ensuring adherence to budget and compliance with the financial management policy;
  • Explore potential new commercial opportunities for TBI, including sponsorships, partnerships and business opportunities through the activities of TBI;
  • Adhere to appropriate WH&S policies;
  • Provide the TBI Management Committee with a monthly report detailing the performance to the strategic plan.

The successful applicant must be able to possess the following attributes;

  • Proven ability to manage human and financial resources,
  • A positive notice to from the Commission Young People and Children;
  • Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills including the ability to negotiate with a broad range of people at all levels;
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and manage organisations (including the ability to develop strategic and operational plans and report outcomes to the Management Committee);
  • At least five years’ experience working in a sporting association. An innovative individual who is actively seeking constant improvement;
  • Strong attention to detail, with a high standard of integrity;
  • Effective knowledge of IT and communication systems;
  • Must be willing to work outside of normal hours and weekends

Remuneration:

The successful applicant will be offered a competitive salary package of $65,000 total package will include car, phone allowance and Super, plus a $5000 bonus if KPI’s are met.
