Despite eventually conceding the match by 15 points, the Flames kept up with the Power, trailing by just one point at both half-time and three-quarter time. Some sharp shooting at the perimeter from Natalie Hurst and Katrina Clifford put the game in Gladstone’s hands in the final stanza to seal the match. Rebecca Haynes top-scored for the Power with 21 points while Lisa Braunberger was strong for Townsville with 17 points and 14 rebounds.

The Cyclones took control of the match from the get-go, with a 21-point lead at the end of the first quarter. The Flames managed to knock back a bit of the deficit but couldn’t match Rockhampton’s combination of Romeo and Dowdell on the scoreboard. Dowdell top-scored with 19 points and 13 rebounds, Braunberger the best of Townsville’s scorers with 14 points.

The Heat grabbed themselves an early lead and held onto it for the whole match, denying Gladstone a chance to get the win at home. Chris Cedar shot 18 points for Townsville while Zach Silverman had a game-high of 23 points.

A close opening 15 minutes of the match with the margins kept tight, but the Rockets fired up and ran away with the lead and the match. Brad Williamson was strong for the Rockets with 28 points, Todd Blanchfield contributed 22 points for Townsville.
