The first half saw a close contest with the lead changing hands on a number of occasions, Townsville managing to push their lead out to seven points at one stage. The Meteorettes drove the second half and the Flames were unable to catch up, Louella Tomlinson top-scoring for Mackay with 19 points while Alicia Froling hit 13 for Townsville

The Heat grabbed themselves an early seven-point lead in the first quarter, before Mackay knocked it back to one point before the first break. The lead changed hands throughout the rest of the match keeping fans on the edge of their seats, and with four minutes to go Townsville had a one-point-lead 75 to 74. But the Meteors weren’t about to concede another game at home and kicked back into high gear, capitalising on a number of offensive rebounds and the hot hands of Michael Cedar to put themselves 13 points ahead to win the match. Cedar put up 26 points for Mackay while Todd Blanchfield was again strong for Townsville with 30 points.
