The Guam Dragon Boat Federation unveiled it's brand new dragon boats during a ceremony held in honor of Vice Minister Yu Zaiqing, General Administration of Sport of the People's Republic of China and the Vice President of the Chinese Olympic Committee and Beijing Olympic Games on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at the Matapang Beach Park.
The First Lady Joann Camacho graced the event with her presence along with former Governor Paul M. Calvo who represented Calvo's Enterprises as an official sponsor of the GDBF. Also present were President Rick Blas of the Guam National Olympic Committee, President Wang Xiaolin of the Chinese Wushu Federation PRC, Secretary-General Muraoka Kyohei of the Asian Wushu Federation along with Wei Daishun and Zeng Feng of the Chinese Olympic Committee.
The sponsors of the Guam Dragon Boat Federation were also on hand to witness this auspicious occassion including Robert Johnson, President of Hawaiian Rock Products, George Chiu of Tan Holdings Corporation and Alfred Wang of the Chinese Chamber Commerce of Guam.
Secretary-General Joey Miranda III opened the event by thanking all those in attendance then introducing the Honored Guests along with special commendations for all sponsors of the GDBF before introducing the President of the Guam Dragon Boat Federation Gordon T. C. Chu who spoke of the organization and its intentions and reiterated his gratefulness to the sponsors and the Department of Parks and Recreation for their kind assistance headed by Director Joseph Duenas. The First Lady was then introduced and congratulated Chu and the GDBF with former Governor Calvo also giving praise to the president founder. Vice Minister Yu elaborated on the significance of the event and vouched his assistance to the organization with GNOC President Blas closing the event with a heartfelt gratitude to all, most especially the sponsors whom were very instrumental in sports and its endeavors.
After all the speeches concluded, the unveiling and ribbon cutting commenced with all guests and sponsors while the Lion Dance was performed by the Chinese Association of Guam.
