Guam Dragon Boat team collected two bronze medals during the 7th Club Crew World Championship held at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre in Macau SAR China. 176 crews were represented with a total of 68 clubs from seventeen countries who contested for medals from July 29 to August 1, 2010.
Crews from Australia, Canada, China, Philippines, Germany, Russia, United States of America, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Czech Republic, Iran, Trinidad and Guam paraded through a colorful array of dragon boats on the evening of July 28 at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre.
Guam Dragon Boat members competed in the 200 meter and 500 meter Small Boat category garnering bronze in both distances of the Senior A Group. The group competed in the 200 meter event on July 30 finishing in third place with time of 54.230 seconds. The gold medal was claimed by the team of PSV Schwerin Uhus from Germany with a time of 50.800 seconds while Team Pyros of the Philippines was awarded the silver with a time of 52.980 seconds.
The group then took to the lake on Sunday, August 1 for the 500 meter race to claim another third place finish and the bronze medal again behind the stronger teams of PSV Schwerin Uhus from Germany and Team Pyros of the Philippines. The Germans finished the finals heat in 2 minutes 11.579 seconds while the Filipinos were 1.390 seconds behind with Guam claiming third on a time of 2:16.319.
The Guam Team consisted of Dragon Boat paddlers 40 years of age and above which included Michael Wu, Byun Seong You, Zhongbao Huang, Dongyin Liu, Louis Liu, James Ma, Romias Quintin, Song Ho Jin, Si Qun Wang, Shaobin Zhang, Guijiang, Zheng, Haixuan Zhou and Michael John Gawel, Jay Wan and Team Leader Gordon Chu, Honorary Life President and Founder of the Guam Dragon Boat Federation.
