Highlands FC Under 15's win the FNSW Country Cup

The Highlands FC Under 15 team represented Southern Branch in the Country Cup held at Bathurst over the long weekend.

In a tough two days of competition the locals ended up as Country Cup Winners defeating strong opposition from Western and Riverina Branches.

The teams results were as follows.

Saturday

  • Southern HFC v Western (Orange) 1-1 Scorer : Lachlan Hunter
  • Southern HFC v Riverina (Albury) 1-1 Scorer: David Phillips

Sunday

  • Southern HFC v Western (Orange) 3-0 Scorers: Mitch Third, David Phillips and an own goal.
  • Southern HFC v Riverina (Albury) 1-0 Scorer: Matthew Sainsbury-Dale

Following Saturday's two drawn results the team  had to win both games on the Sunday.

The final game went down to the wire but the side managed to score an early goal and hold on to beat Albury.

Player of the tournament for the 15’s was David Phillips

Coaches Nathan and John Donlon commented that it was a great all round team effort and they were very proud of all the boys.

This may be the first time that a Highlands team has won the Country Cup.

This is also the first major trophy for Highlands FC Junior teams. Congratulation to the players and coaches involved.
