On the 21st February 2009 saw the unveiling of the newest cocktail to hit Sydney, and the newest team in the Sydney Womens AFL league. With so many things being different about the makeup of this team, it is not surprising that they launch with a cocktail named after them, and created by the players. Suntory sponsored the event with some fine Midori giveaways.
Major sponsors and hosts of the event Sydney RSL made sure the girls were well looked after, and had the cocktail bar well decorated in the colours of the new team. A good crowd from the mixed community of Gaelic and afl turned up to taste the new drink, and so popular it was that supplies ran out twice and staff were sent away to top up. Sydney RSL organised a popular band to play while we tasted the delights, and learnt a few new dance moves.
The club's other big sponsor The Gaff, then sent a bus down especially to pick the girls up and escort them to their VIP area at the Oxford Street night club, where free drinks flowed all night long. The VIP area complete with pole became quite the attraction with various attempts at pole-dancing even from the pros.
The team were well recognised in their new polos courtesy of Taste Ireland, and even with coach Kiwi on the judging panel for the bikini competition, the girls were well recognised and support growing for them where ever we travel.
The girls would love to thank Holly and John from Sydney RSL, and Pete and Jase from The Gaff, who all made our first night out a very special evening.
Included is the Irish Echo article which contains pictures and some players you will be seeing in 2009 (head tilt required).
