DPL tips off with record numbers

Commencing tomorrow night at Boondall for a ninth season, the DUNK Basketball Uniforms Premier League maintains its stature as a leading senior competition in North Brisbane with a record eleven teams signed on for a shot at the championship.

All nine teams including reigning premier Brisbane White Eagles return from the previous season, whilst Jelly Squad and Northside Christian College have entered the snake pit to clash against an intimidating field littered with QBL, SBL and junior representative players.

Ozswoosh Blaze coach Craig Rowe and his athletes are keen to get the season underway.

“Having 11 teams in the league this season is a huge boost. We get to measure ourselves against veterans and youth and playing different teams with different playing styles is one of the DPL’s greatest selling points for us as a development program.”

“I believe DPL to be among the strongest leagues in Brisbane and definitely the strongest in the Northern Suburbs. Northside Wizards do an excellent job with the competition and the refereeing is of extremely high standard with 3 refs on each game.”

Meanwhile after previously dipping out at the semi final stage, the Raptors have strengthened their chances of adding a third title to their cabinet after the dismissal of forward Matt Donaldson from the program. Averaging 2 points and 5 turnovers per game last season, Donaldson was given his marching orders after it was learned he was the owner of an extensive My Little Pony collection.

With organisers continually seeking to improve the standard of play, the playoff format has been trimmed to the top six finishers, with the first and second-placed teams rewarded with a weeks’ rest prior to their first finals action.

The DUNK Premier League is the Northside Wizards’ premier men’s competition, all games are fully timed and officiated by three referees. Please direct all queries to jordan@northsidewizards.com or call 3325 5747 during regular business hours.
