DPL award winners revealed

As the seventh season of the DUNK Basketball Uniforms Premier League winds down, dual MVP status remains untouched to a select few following the finalisation of votes during the week.

Claiming MVP for his efforts during the 2018 winter season is ISO guard Josh Potter. Named to last season’s All-League 1st Team, Potter took his game to another level leading the competition with an average 28.67ppg and helping an improved ISO squad place 5th heading in to the first week of playoffs.

With the MVP award voted on by teams, Potter was a runaway winner tallying 41 votes, easily topping the trailing group of Zach Williams-Hook (24), Vlad Rapaic (23) and Jacob Arthur (21). He joins an illustrious previous winners list that includes Nate Wilkins, Dennis Thornton, Luke Stewart, Matt Donaldson, Williams-Hook and Chol Muorter.

Potter’s play also saw him easily returned to the All-League 1st Team. Comprised from match officials 3-2-1 voting following each regular season game, his 38 votes polled well ahead of fellow 1st Teamers Wilkins (27), Stewart (26), Arthur (25) and Williams-Hook (23).

In a unique first for the league, the father-son combo of Dennis (15) and Tayte Thornton (16) both joined the All-Leage 3rd Team.

The league’s All-Defensive voting featured some familiar faces in Wes Rand (28), Stewart (25) and Fraser Lowrie (17) who again earned nods to the 1st Team along with Williams-Hook (17) and Steve Allan (11).

Jake Porter’s consistent season with the whistle saw him deservedly earn the Referee’s Award.
