With AFL on the Sunshine Coast set to get into top gear in the coming week, our clubs from the southern mountains of the Lions to the northern outpost of the Cats and rolling across to the sands and surf of our coastal clubs are all go.
The Gympie Cats are purring as promotional activity hits the schools and streets of Gympie town. The weather up there has been pretty hot this past few weeks but nothing will be hotter than a few roaring Lions in ye old town next Thursday. The Lions players with AFLQ staff will be visiting some local schools that day and then heading down to the “Cattery”, the local footy club later that afternoon (4pm).
Heading off the “play AFL” promotions will be some Gympie Cats AFC activity at “Centro Gympie” on Saturday 30th January from 10am to 2pm (near the food court), so get along and say G’day to AFLQ’s Mal and some of the Cats boys.
School NAB AFL Auskick promos will be happening as we gear up for another big term of Auskick and the starting of the Clubs “Cool Cats” program for 7 to 10 year olds. The Gympie Cats club based AFL Auskick centre will start on Thursday 18th February, running from 4pm to 5pm with a couple of other local school based centres still to be confirmed.
The very successful inaugural year of the “Cool Cats” program will again give local 7 to 10 year olds the chance to play like ‘Browny’, ‘Blacky’ or ‘Drummo’ on a weekly basis within their home town. The “Cool Cats” is designed as an introductory club based footy program, with players assigned to a team for what will be a 13 week competition in season 2010 starting on Friday 19th March running from 4pm. The teams are based on the AFL colors of the Lions, Crows, Eagles, Saints, Blues and Swans – early word from one exuberant coach is “watch out for the swannies!” The 13 week season will bounce through until Friday 30th July with a presentation evening and Disco to follow the final round of match play.
The “Cool Cats” program is proudly sponsored by Gympie Regional Realty, Rob Kelly Landscape Constructions, Austwide Pest & Termite Management, Rural Air Solutions and Cooloola Fire Protection.
“Cool Cats” registrations along with those of players looking to kick goals in the under 12’s, 14’s and 16’s will be taken at the club on one of many dates – Thursday 4th and Friday 5th February from 4-6pm and on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th February from 10am-2pm. So for full detail of training times, registration costs, playing uniforms and to meet the coaches get down to the Cattery early February to kick of your Twenty10 season. Early indications are that the club will again host two under 12 teams this season giving more players opportunity to participate at a level more to their and the teams keeping.
Keep an eye out for the clubs sign-on advertising, help pass the “play AFL” message and get down to the Cattery for the kicks of your life.
