The 2009 Maroochy RSL Club AFL Sunshine Coast Junior season nears completion and for the under 16’s their season curtain fell last weekend, for some this may be a blessing as things were certainly tough in keeping all together over the past 6 months. A number of these under 16 players head off to “senior” footy next year and we wish them well and trust they will remain in the great game AFL, many clubs are now turning their heads to under 18 team compositions for 2010 so register your interest.
For five teams in the under 16’s their season now hots up with finals footy action; Friday night sees a double header down at the home of Glasshouse Hinterland (Landsborough) first game at 5.40pm is Kawana Park v Caloundra followed by Maroochydore v Noosa Red. Top team in pool A Noosa Blue get the weeks break and will face the winner of Kawana Park v Caloundra, if it’s Caloundra plenty of work there for coach Lumpy who witnessed his charges soundly beaten by Noosa Blue last start.
So the schedule for Glasshouse Hinterland venue on Friday night 14th August is:
5.40pm Kawana Park (2) V Caloundra (3)
7.45pm Maroochydore (4) V Noosa Red (Pool B 1)
We all have an extremely tight time schedule to adhere to this evening, due to the need to finish prior to 10pm, so the time keeper will be belting the siren and time clock to keep the evening moving.
Competing teams are reminded that they will be required to supply one boundary and one goal umpire to these games. The boundary umpire MUST have a whistle.
In the under 12’s division 1 competition the top three teams all won although full credit to Caloundra who pushed Noosa Blue all the way, with a two point final margin. For Noosa Blue they face Maroochydore Roos this Friday night at Fish Park in what will be a gigantic struggle, the end catch for the winning team is the double chance second spot offers.
Nothing can change in ladder positions that affect semi final action in the under 12’s division two competition so it will be simply a case of refining game plans as the top four teams look to the following week. The match of great interest in this competition will be the top placed Glasshouse Hinterland traveling to Gympie who are third, this will give all a great indication of how finals could pan out over the following weeks.
Noosa Blue in the under 14’s division 1 competition have still yet to drop their guard in 2009 and subsequently head to finals action as the team to beat for premiership glory. But no doubt Friday night’s game v second placed Maroochydore Gold will be a cracker as these two teams appear likely to face each other three times in the coming four weeks through to our last 2009 Sunday. Other action in the final round of this competition will see Caloundra and Kawana Park (3 v 4) face off against each other as a precursor to the following weeks semi final, confidence going into the following week is the trophy out of round 17.
Gympie Cats under 14’s in the division two competition showed us they are capable with a win over second team Noosa Red on Sunday, but for these Cats it is a little too late and subsequently they will miss out on finals; this coming round they have the chance to knock over another finals bound team in Glasshouse Hinterland. The Glasshouse Hinterland team just getting the four points against a gallant Maroochydore White last Sunday, a game that now sees the finals out of the question for these White Roos.
All in all some great home and away Junior AFL action played across the Sunshine Coast in season 2009, and for those pulling on their club jumper for a last time this year get out there and enjoy it whilst creating some fantastic memories.
For our under 8’s and 10’s their season will finish this Sunday with the annual end of season carnival at Noosa, plenty of footy action and some side entertainment to keep all amused, always a great event. The participants at the carnival will also have the chance to meet ‘Irons’ the Gold Coast Football Club mascot as well as brush up on their kicking, handballing, tackling and specky skills at the AFL Interactive Inflatable station.
