As seen in this weeks edition of Junior Sport in the Sunshine Coast Daily, former Sydney Swans and current Maroochy Northshore player Ben Mathews takes time out to answer a few questions.
1. Which schools did you attend?
Lowesdale Primary School and Corowa High School (both in NSW).
« 2. What were your favourite subjects?
PE, metal work.
« 3. Which sports did you play at school?
AFL and tennis. I played tennis at state level.
« 4. While you were growing up, who were your sporting heroes?
I barracked for Essendon so Tim Watson, Paul Van der Haar and Terry Daniher.
« 5. Which other team of athletes, outside of AFL, do you enjoy watching?
The Australian cricket team. I like following the Australian tennis players like Lleyton Hewitt and Pat Rafter.
« 6. What is your favourite food?
Spaghetti marinara.
« 7. What music do you listen to?
Whatever’s on the radio. I used to love Pearl Jam.
« 8. Who has had a major influence on your sporting career?
My parents. The amount of driving they did to get me to carnivals and footy games was pretty impressive.
« 9. What has been your most memorable sporting moment?
Winning the 2005 AFL grand final with the Sydney Swans. We beat West Coast by four points. When Leo Barry took that mark at the end it was happiness and relief.
« 10. What advice do you have for kids playing junior sport?
Always try your best, listen to your coaches and listen to your parents.
