Its been a busy week of major achievement at League land over the past week with the completion and acceptance of the Maroochy RSL Club AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors season fixture. The fixture as I type is going up on our website with clubs having the final copy in hand, a few slight adjustments will be needed as a couple of venue concerns come to finalisation. All in all she is a goer.
We experienced another one of those Queensland big wets early in the week, the mid to later part of the week was kinder with some reasonable drying conditions, but no doubt there will still be some mud to enjoy come Sunday.
Friday night sees some LMP action at Gympie with the Cool Cats returning after a gutful of fairy floss and pluto pups at last weeks Gympie show keeping these young Cats away from footy. At Maroochydore, Coolum Beach, Pomona and Noosa will visit to take speckies, kick 20 metre torp goals and have heaps of fun. A few of the Tigers of Noosa teams will head out to Nambour & Hinterlands woods venue for some night action.
Sunday sees our LMP south under 8 action go to a new venue at Meridan State College, the home of the Meridan Panthers, these guys of two teams will be on the hunt against some Panthers from mother club Caloundra. We are most thankful to Meridan State College for their support in the birth of these Panthers teams, some 18 participants, two teams a great start and then allowing their fields for community usage on a few occasions in season 09. Well done to spiritual leader Chris Hunt for his guidance with a bit of coaching as these boys step from Auskick to club footy. Fantastic!
Whilst these four x 8s teams of LMP south action are at Meridan SC the other teams of Caloundra with Glasshouse Hinterland will head to school for some Sunday education of the footy type against their soaring hosts Kawana Park Eagles.
Wow heaps of aspiring young Ablett, Franklin and Drummond action these venues will see, good luck boys and special mention to the girls who also get their participation kicks in our great game.
The fields of Nambour and Hinterland will offer a great tussle tonight with 14s div 1 action between the home team and Maroochydore Green, many boys here vying for Suncoast Power selection. Last time these two teams met at Fish Park the final siren brought a draw, the Green Roo sits inside the four by a game but the Blues with a healthier percentage can snare this ladder position with a win. This game should be a cracker; the question is will we see any of that local fog drift in during game time, them Blues love hiding in that as local venue advantage.
Also on tonights fixture is a rescheduled 16s game of Noosa Red v Gympie, will the moat be at Weyba Rd, swimming these boys may also offer in this Pool B action, 6.30pm is kick off and a toss win will see someone kicking with the tide.
Sunday action has most of our youth games played and a big card with an early 8.30am start gets footy stuff flying at the woods venue. Whipping sleep out of their eyes will be the Nambour and Glasshouse Hinterlanders div 3 teams, but these boys love their footy so nothing will inhibit.

This offers plenty of action for the keen AFL Junior supporter, with steamed Dim Sims from Roxys canteen in big demand! The 16s Pool A game of Eagles v Panthers should be a beauty and will give big indication of what lies ahead at this level, can the Eagles bounce back from a defeat at the hands of the Tigers last start while Caloundra Panthers appear set to really get into swing after a sluggish season start.
Across to the coast at Fish Park, and plenty of mullet spotted there this week we see 3 games to be played in what will be tough conditions on heavy tracks. Roos hosting Tigers and Lions who are hungry for Roo burger. The 12s div 1 game of Maroochydore Roos v Noosa Blue will be a beauty as these two top of the table teams face off (well lets hope not) for the first time in 2009. The two 14s games will also be beauties as the combatants are placed in similar ladder positions, the 14s div 1 has both teams undefeated and five week bragging rights will result with top spot. But players Jake Strong and Cain Tickner out for the Tigers and Miller of the Isaiah variety out for the Roos, these boys in Schoolboy 15s duties this weekend. No doubt others with both teams boasting plenty of depth and talent will step up to the plate and drive their teams in what will be a tight tussle. My bet is that these three Fish Park round 7 games will be decided by less than a couple of goals, wow a place to be to watch great junior footy action in the real footy code.
Kawana Park post a morning of LMP action, will see an under 12 div two game with the div one side gracing the school fields from 11am. All games are important in team development, but for the newly returned div 2 Lions of Glasshouse Hinterland this result will indicate where they are at against a young but committed and capable Eagles team. In the 12s div 1, Caloundra are close every week as last weeks result, a 10 point deficit highlights against a strong Tigers team, these Panthers are about to click and Kawana Park Eagles may well be the start of their push to glory. Great footy at Kawana Waters High School should drag a big Nicklin Way crowd in, entry is free locals.
Great reports are emanating out of Coolum Beach, the locals are excited about big time junior action in their neighborhood and visitors are treated warmly, the league BBQ offering delights on a Sunday morning. This week human Roos will join the mob of locals, a bit of roo poo always helping keep this ground lush. All three games will be great spectacles, and like at Fish Park results will be narrow with plenty of stunted nails resulting also, plenty of positive, passionate spectator support will wash out the sound of breakers hitting the nearby beach. Surfs up but these Breakers are very committed to the Sherrin with club officials and coaches doing a great job in footy education; so hit the High on Sunday.
The Demons den will have the Pomona blue legs run out against near neighbor the Red Tigers of Noosa in 12s and 14s div 2 action. The Pomona 12s will be hungry to bounce back to the winning dais after a tough outing last start against northern rival Gympie. Noosa Red are on the improve each week posted their first win of season 09 against a capable Kawana Park Eagles team. In the 14s game we will all wait to see a result, the Dees back in division 2 after grading rounds will take on top team Noosa Red in a game that also offers plenty. So some fantastic Sunday morning action is on offer at the Demons den this week, get along!
Noosas Weyba Road after having a late change to their fixture card will only have two games to offer to their AFL hungry community on Sunday. The first game played between Noosa Gold and Gympie div 3 men will now start at 10.30am, a bit more sleep in time boys, dreaming of AFL glory on the G on that last Saturday in September; whats this Sydney GF stuff, Andrew? An all important 16s Pool A game will follow where Danny the Roo coach will want his Maroochydore boys back on the positive match result side after a few tough weeks. They face top team Noosa who last week in an epic match got the chocolates against the Eagles. Basically these Noosa Tigers appear the 16s team to beat.
Our last junior AFL Sunny Coast games to discuss for round 7 are down at Caloundra. North Street was a wash earlier in the week, so no doubt the evergreen field curator Mick Noonan has been hard at work with straws and bucket draining the field for his beloved Panthers over recent days, onya Mick. Sunday has two teams from Cat land head down the Bruce to pay a visit; 9.30 start time with 12s div 2 and 14s div 2 to follow in cat attacks. In the 12s both teams are developing footballers for tomorrow, but this game presents opportunity for either to sing the club song. In the 14s the Cats are going to have to do it against a strong committed Panthers team without a couple of capable players in Harry White and Jack Clouston both boys booting up for the Wide Bay 15s school boys team in the State Schoolboys championships.
So to all enjoy the footy this week, participation the key. To our spectators from far and wide some fantastic junior AFL action appears likely in round 7 so enjoy the opportunity to witness all the boys and a few hearty girls doing their best and being part of the great AFL action.
