Congratulations to former Sunshine Coast Power boys who have been selected in the Open Queensland and under 21 squads. Austin Lucy, Morningside, (open squad) and Josh Norman, Redlands (open squad) and young talent Ben Weightman, Aspley, (under 21s squad) have all been standout players for their clubs after just 6 rounds.
Powerhouse forward Austin Lucy, former Caloundra boy, spent a season on Essendons list and has since joined Morningside after a 2 year stint with Zillmere. Austin has had a strong start to the season and hopes to make the side after missing out last year due to a broken jaw. Lucy said that he was excited about playing and that its always an honour to play for Queensland.
Josh Norman who is a superb carrier of the ball and known for his prolific delivery to forwards is also a former Zillmere Eagle/Caloundra and Queensland under 21s player. Norman returned to the State League from the Caloundra Panthers by joining Redlands. Lucy and Norman will look to take on Tasmania on June 7th in Hobart.
Dynamic forward and midfielder Ben Weightman has had a huge impact with Aspley being in the best players over the first few weeks having kicked 11 goals. Weightman said he was excited about the prospect of playing in the under 21s especially being just 18 years of age. Weightman also said being able to play in front of family in Melbourne was another great incentive to push for selection. Weightman will follow in the footsteps of Sunshine Coast products Josh Norman and Paul Medveczky who have previously played in the Queensland under 21 side. If selected in the side, Weightman will travel to Melbourne on June 6th to tackle the Victorian Amateur Football Association under 21s.
Good luck to the boys in their endeavours in being selected to represent their state and for the rest of the season
