A bright sunny Queensland day was the perfect back drop for round six of the Maroochy RSL Club AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors competition. In the lead up into round six we saw some re-jigging of some of our competitions which is never an easy task and no doubt some questions remain, but as a result of the changes, the Management committee hopes that all competitions will settle down into more regular balanced contests week in week out as sides settle.
The bonus of the weekend was getting two more under 12 teams on the paddock, with Gympie Cats and Coolum Beach Breakers getting second sides into division three action, a competition which is based purely on participation, skill acquisition and development. Our division three in the main has been a great plus to the league as we look to give further playing opportunity to players seeking such development.
In the 12s div 1 Maroochydore Roos continued on their way, whilst we see the Caloundra Panthers improving each week as they pushed the Noosa Tigers all the way at Weyba Road.
In the 12s division 2 competition the returning teams of Gympie and Glasshouse Hinterland had solid wins, the Lions of Glasshouse inflicting the Breakers first loss in 09. The Noosa Red team here experienced their first opportunity to belt out their club song with a quality win over third placed Kawana Park Blue.
In the under 14s, division 1 scores indicated two solid wins to two of the top three teams, whilst the second placed Maroochydore Gold team was strongly challenged by the ever improving Nambour & Hinterland Blues; 10 goals the difference last time they played down to a five goal gap this round gone.
A couple of cracking games back in the division two 14s had the spectators chewing nails until the final siren and out at the Jungle of the Glasshouse Lions their game changed leader three times in the last stanza. Noosa Red are still the yard stick in this competition but challenge will come from the Pomona Demons who are now back in division two. Tthis Sunday will give us an answer to that question as the two sides meet.
The under 16s took on a new look this round as the eight teams divided into two pools giving more even weekly contests. The much anticipated Noosa Blue v Kawana Park Pool A match was a ball burster with both teams going at the Sherrin with great gusto, the final result was a 14 point gap. Caloundra was on song against a hot and cold Maroochydore 16s unit. Unfortunately in Pool B the results were not pretty, but no doubt the Nambour & Hinterland and Gympie teams will get things together in the coming weeks and show their commitment to the footy.
Next weekend we see round seven action staged at Nambour & Hinterlands Palmwoods field, Fishermans Rd, Kawana High, Coolum High, Pomona, Noosa and Caloundra. So till then work hard on the team orientated parts of play and enjoy your footy.
