Round four sees our LMP zones get into action with footy played on Friday night at Noosa and Nambour & Hinterland. The south zone come together at Kawana Parks High School venue on Sunday; joining the South Zone in 2009 will be two under 8 teams from Meridan State College under the skipper ship of Chris Hunt and we warmly welcome these 20 participants to our Junior ranks. While all of this gets underway, the Gympie Cool Cats program swings into its second month, 70 plus participants taking to the Cattery every Friday afternoon at 4pm.
All the best to all these littlies as they get into season 2009; to the spectators take pleasure in the wide eyed enthusiasm all participants bring to the game, support the umpire in white and simply enjoy the game.
In the under 12s div 1 competition we see a ladder with three undefeated teams in Maroochydore Roos, Nambour & Hinterland Blues and Noosa Blue and this week we see the top two teams collide. The Roos will head to Nambour on Friday night for a 7.30pm showdown, this game well worth the trip out to the Woods, how far have these new era Blues come?
Other games in the 12s div 1 will see Glasshouse Hinterland and Maroochydore Green come together at the Jungle on Friday night, the Green Roo having had their first success last week against a gallant Gympie up at the Cattery, producing an 8 point gap at final siren. The Lions of Glasshouse Hinterland have yet to get the chocolates but were very competitive against the undefeated Noosa Blues last start.
The Blues of Noosa will be this weeks team to head to the Cattery, and no doubt the young Cats will have learnt much from their three weeks in the big league. In the final game of this competition we see the two south seaside teams of Kawana Park and Caloundra take to the fields of Kawana State College with an 11am start. This young Caloundra team also looking to attain their first season points, to date they have been most competitive with a percentage generated from 109 points for and 155 against, last weeks game against Nambour & Hinterland was a four point loss, so close against a ladder leader.
All in all the division 1, 12s competition looks to be a hotly contested 8 team competition, and the coming few fixtures of grading will be of great interest. Enjoy the contest.
The Maroochy RSL Club AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors, under 12 division 2 competition with 6 teams in its current grading fixture form has two teams undefeated in Coolum Beach and Maroochydore White. Noosa Red and Caloundra both go into round four seeking their first chocolates but their challenges are top side Coolum Beach on a Friday night at Weyba Rd and for the Panthers a road trip to the Demons Den and neither will be an easy challenge.
Great to see the Breakers of Coolum Beach travelling so well as this club continues on its crawling path to the walking road. Coach Ian ODwyer has instilled a fantastic AFL ethos into his young charges and has all playing for each other in a solid, team driven game plan.
In the third game of 12s division 1, we see a most important clash in Maroochydore White, who are so far undefeated, host Kawana Park whom are in third spot on 2 wins. These two teams both have young squads but are most capable and they come together at Fishermans Rd on Friday evening at 7.15pm.
The participation competition of under 12s division three is providing much enjoyment for all concerned and by all accounts and viewings has to this point been hailed a huge success, all built around 10 and 11 year old players development and participation. The rumor mill is also suggesting that we may see one or two new starters to this non-premiership competition in coming rounds. Stay tuned!
But looking at this weeks, round we see Glasshouse Lions hosting their Hinterland brothers in the Blues of Nambour which should be a game of great song and fun. The other game sees Maroochydore Roos hosting their long term rival from the north in Noosa Tigers with a Friday night game also, the night the stars will shine! Good luck to all boys and a few girls who are loving their footy.
In the under 14s we see some great division 1 football to be played in the Maroochy RSL Club AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors round 4 fixture at Glasshouse Hinterland Jungle, Pomonas Den and a doubleheader out at the Woods.
Friday night, on what will possibly be a beanie and scarf evening, the 8pm time will have the Lions of Glasshouse host the Green Roo of Maroochydore. The Lions are still seeking success and to date the div 1 going has been tough yards and last week certainly not easy against ladder leader Noosa Blue. Their opponent at the Jungle will be Maroochydore Green who fought hard last start against a gallant Pomona Demons outfit getting their first full points.
This week the Pomona Demons will have another home game hit out up against the top of the table Noosa Blue Tiger, a big challenge for the Billy Magin coached Demons but im sure it will be a challenge they will perform very well in. Plenty of young boys in both sides who this week fronted up for their first Suncoast Power under 14 training.
Two games in the 14s of division 1 will be played at Nambour & Hinterland with the home team hosting Maroochydore Gold, a Gold Roo team chock full of talent. This will be a tough gig for the Blues who seek their first opportunity to burst into voice with the club song. At 9am the Woods will come alive with the sound of Kawana Park Eagles and Caloundra Panthers doing battle. The Eagles sit in third spot and were very disappointing last start against the Golden Roo, and the coach will be seeking a more committed four quarters from a team that in rounds one and two looked very capable with solid wins over Nambour & Hinterland Blues and Pomona. Caloundra got their season underway last start with a hard fought win over the Blues and will look to bring the win/loss ledger to an even balance this week.
In the division 2 14s, a Friday night game gets this competition underway at Fish Park at 5.30pm, the White Maroochydore team hosting their Roo brothers in what will be a tight Roo fight and will give training ground bragging rights for the coming weeks. Jensen v Moody in the coaching boxes.
The Catters of Gympie are again at home and this week it gets no easier for the Cats with top 14s div 2 team in Caloundra snaking up the Bruce Highway for a Sunday morning visit. The Cats in round one had a win against a gallant Breakers outfit whilst in week 2 against a strong White Roo at Fish Park the game was a beauty but at end read a 6 point deficit for the Cats. Last week was tough against the Noosa Red team and certainly Caloundra wont be easier but a Cats side out of bed with energy on home turf should be capable.
Weyba Road will host home team Noosa Red with Coolum Beach the visitor, the Breakers are yet to chalk up a win but from week to week are committed and no doubt their time will come, but Noosa isnt going to be easy. One contest at a time and let the scoreboard take care of its self will be the word from Coach Boyd.
For the under 16s we see a round where 25 players will be missing from this competition overall as they head to Zillmeres OCallaghan Park for the Queensland State Championships. And unfortunately with a few injuries also sustained at this level last week (some to Power players now unavailable) team numbers are going to be low, so simply get a game going is the message and it will be a great opportunity for other players to step up to the plate.
The matches are Maroochydore v Glasshouse / Pomona on the Friday night at Fishermans Rd, Kawana Park at their new home the Woods playing Noosa Red Sunday morning, Gympie hosting Nambour & Hinterland in what will be a beauty and Noosa Blue up against Caloundra.
So all enjoy your footy this week and cheer all those for great play and above all positive sportsmanship.
