THE seeds of Gympie AFL's future success were planted last Friday afternoon at the Six Mile Oval as the newly unveiled Cool Cats competition was officially launched.
Competition spokesperson Jason Bromilow has been one of a strong group working behind the scenes to bring the concept into fruition.
'It's great to finally see it get underway and the response has been huge,' he said.
Lying largely vacant for the last six months, the Six Mile Oval is set to weather a pounding as AFL establishes itself once again in the region.
Cool Cats participants arrived well ahead of the scheduled start of the opening round of games, reflective of the overall level of enthusiasm driving the competition.
Coaches and parents assisted where possible in handing out last minute uniforms and directing traffic as players were introduced to their fellow team mates.
The Lions and Swans outfits were two of the first to assemble on the Six Mile oval, running through some early warm-up drills before the start of action.
The oval itself was divided up into a number of smaller fields for the competition with modified goal posts dotted across the surface.
Bromilow says the competition features modified rules to encourage participation.
'We want to give everyone a go, so we are rotating positions so all team members can have a kick and a chance at collecting a goal,' he said.
The competition continues this Friday afternoon.
