The Sunshine Coast Sunfire Superstars descended on the field at Yeronga on Saturday November 2 to test out their AFL capabilities.
Sunfire Superstars is the first level in the Female Football Academy Pathway aimed at girls in years six and seven who are interested in their AFL career.
The Female Football Academy is an innovative program that provides young Queensland girls with a unique opportunity to participate in a first-class sporting and education experience.
Sunshine Coast had 11 girls participate from a range of schools including; Bli Bli State School, Coolum State School, Chevallum State School, St Thomas More Primary and Pacific Paradise State School.
At the Sunfire Carnival on the weekend the Sunshine Coast girls came up against other regions and school from across South-East Queensland.
The Sunshine Coast girls played three games and were undefeated which made them the winners of the carnival.
Congratulations to Emma, Ashlee, Jasper, Ruby, Gian, Taya, Holly, Isabel, Ameeka, Kirra and Keeley for making the Sunshine Coast team and bringing home the Sunfire Premiership Medals!
Thank you to AFL Sunshine Coast Development Coordinator, Rohan Briggs for training and coaching the 2013 Sunshine Coast Sunfire Superstars.
Youth Girls AFL on the Sunshine Coast can only grow with talented young female footballers like this coming through and we will no doubt see their faces playing club footy in 2014.
