The 2013 Josh Drummond Cup, for Sunshine Coast High Schools, has being run and won for another year.
This years competition seen the rise of a few other school teams with Nambour SHS, Beerwah SHS, Meridan SC, St Andrews, Suncoast Grammar, and Maroochydore SHS all performing well throughout the competition.
The JD Cup is an eight week program with 14 teams fighting it out for School Boys Premiership Glory culminating at Fishermans Road, Maroochydore for the Grand Final.
Named after former Maroochydore Junior AFC and Brisbane Lions AFC champion, Josh Drummond, the JD Cup Grand Final stage was set with Mountain Creek up against Matthew Flinders.
On a balmy evening the chords of our National Anthem were beautifully sung by our guest Mountain Creek High School student Miss Rachel Breeze to officially open the 2013 JD Cup Grand Final.
Field umpires Nathan Gibson and Lewis Scott stood proud as the anthem was delivered and the turned their focus to the game ahead.
Matthew Flinders under the guidance of Nambour and Hinterland AFC Senior Coach, Ben Stanley, were well equipped to provide a solid contest against the AFL School of Excellence boys in Mountain Creek.
The Creekers went in as favourites but we all know big games can throw up the great unexpected.
The first quarter was tight with Flinders through Selman getting them off to a great start with the games first major.
But rolling out that first stanza Creekers, while having to fight hard for the footy, started to stamp their authority on the game, although, inaccurate in front of the big sticks.
The second quarter saw the likes of Blake Kennedy, Bayden Howard, Sam McKenzie, Cam Stevenson, Daniel Henderson, Brad Ilott, Tom Buckle Dylan Menti, Harrison Kerr run wild with big fella, Nate Dennis and Zach Favell controlling the air.
With 10 shots on goal, again a little inaccurate with a 50 per cent conversion, the Creekers took a 40 point lead into the main break.
Again another four Creekers goals in the third had the fat dinosaur dancing and singing in the isles.
The Flinders boys displayed enough consistency continually battling every contest and working hard to take the game on although the scoreboard suggested otherwise.
Nick Kennedy, Fraser Pappin, Nic Selman, Lodi Wulff, Elliot Heath, Nic Patterson, Ben Meehan, Joel Threadgold, Michael Jedynak and others were playing with solid footy keeping the Flinders supporters engaged.
The last quarter was a tribute to Flinders who said to all that 'we never lie down,' fighting out the final stanza of game.
For the quarter Flinders won well on the scoreboard with 3.4 to 2 straight to Creekers.
This duly recognised by Creekers coach Justin Pritchid at games end.

Winner of the Ian Nankervis medallion for 'Best On Ground', best on ground was Creekers Number99 (yep that's a large number to carry around), Brad Ilott.
Brad was ever lively through the mid field and up forward kicking two goals and setting up numerous others.
Then it was time for player presentation medallions and finally to Creekers Captain Cameron Stevenson and Coach Pritch and Bocky the JD Cup was handed to the victors.
So for another year our prized Senior High School Football competition is complete, with an office of AFLQ staff pleased to facilitate.
We thank all schools, players, officials and of course our umpires for the manner in which they partook.
