Under chilling skies with a full moon guiding us to the action of the mighty Sherrin our Josh Drummond Cup teams came out for a final round match as finals beckon.
At a number of coastal AFL venues the Sherrin action was white hot as a number of permutations loomed as to finals finishes.
Played on a lightning fast track at Nambour and Hinterland AFC, the midfield was looking more like a day five WACA wicket than a footy oval on the verge of the 2013 finals series.
The home side, Nambour State School, got off to a flying start kicking four goals inside the first seven minutes!
St Johns College hit back strong to close out the quarter and keep themselves in the contest.
Nambour kicked the only three goals of the second term to open up a six goal buffer at the half and St Johns could not find an avenue to goal.
Spirits were high amongst the Nambour SHS huddle as the coached looked like a man in complete control however the boys in double blue vowed to fight this game out.
The third term saw a more physical encounter with the St Johns boys out to show their strength.
Nambour dominated the quarter and it was clear St Johns were getting smashed when they started introducing shoulder charges that would make Greg Inglis jealous.
Tempers were frayed and the game looked set to explode until umpire Rohan Briggs exerted his authority on the contest.
Only two goals were scored for the fourth quarter with Nambour kicking five unanswered points to finish off the game.
As expected the home team finished the game off as they started with five goals and five points, whilst keeping St Johns scoreless in the final term to run out 75 point victors.
Final scores
Nambour 14-11-95 defeated Grammar 3-2-20
Meanwhile at Fishermans Road...
Game one at Fish Road was a no go with the Lutherans of Pacific unable to muster a congregation giving Chancellor College the chocolates.
Game two warmed things up with a vibrant Sunshine Coast Grammar team wishing to knock over a top dog in the Creekers.
Plenty of Grammarian chat and spirit for each other made for a real on field contest, just the scoreboard not as accommodating.
Key seasoned AFL players for Grammar in Maki, Gee and Glover providing their team mates with plenty of Sherrin.
Half time had the Creekers holding a five goal lead and around the ground their extra footy smarts giving them the edge.
Henderson, Stevenson and Lambert around the bounce of the ball forging forward at any opportunity.
Up forward the smarts of Illot, Howard and co turned opportunity into maximum result.
Tall support from Randall, Kerr and Favell took control in the air feeding the fleet footed.
The third quarter saw a swift start by the Grammarians - gooooooal and then like after the three quarter time siren another... but sandwiched in between was again three majors for the Creekers.
At the last break the Creekers had a handy 45 point lead but still the Grammarians words were most positive "com'n boyz lets win the last".
Each contest until the final sound of siren was ably taken upon by all players.
The last 15 minutes producing no goals and little work for the goal umpires with just two misses by the Creekers.
This, a game played in great spirits, that warmed the hearts and cold feet of all in attendance- well played all.
Highlight of the night was the great efforts of young Grammarians Goal Umpires Tori whom took up the challenge upon quick tuition and waved those flags like a pro - look out Chelsea Rolfe!

And down at Kawana Park...
The team from the Great Navigator’s College (Matthew Flinders) on paper always looked to be too strong for the boys from Beerwah High School, and so it turned out to be, with a consistent 11 goals in each half they brought their A-Game to the table!
Best for Flinders was Sellman, Wulf and Patterson and the best of the Beerwah lads were the McCombe boys.
Best on ground- The Scoreboard Assistant
The following match was a much closer affair and with 12 players a side a very open style of play was there to be enjoyed by the throng.
Both sides moved the ball the length of the ground a number of times, the difference in the match was the Double Blues from Caloundra and their ability to create pressure in the forward line,.
The Browns of Siena showed good game sense and took some strong marks around the ground.
Best for the Siena where McCulloch, McGuinness and Munnaw for Caloundra, Turner, Jackson and Waldron.
