The AFL recently entered into a new Partnership with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) to support their campaign to save lives on Victorian roads.
Today Andrew Demetriou will join the TAC’s CEO Janet Dore, Carlton champion Chris Judd and Victorian Minister for Sport, the Honourable Hugh Delahunty MP to officially remove the 5’s painted on the MCG’s 50 metre arc.
They will also announce that in an AFL first, every 5 will be removed at every match over Round 22 to raise awareness of the TAC’s Wipe off 5 message.
This weekend’s activities are the pinnacle of Wipe off 5 month, which started on 1 August with the TAC calling on the community to show what they can do to illustrate the Wipe off 5 message.
Throughout August there has been a traveling roadshow of a giant, 3D Wipe off 5 message, inviting local communities to sign their name in support of the campaign.
In timing with the weekend‘s activities, a new TAC television commercial will be launched today and can be viewed online at

This weekend is supported by a number of other initiatives including –
- A first time ‘lenticular’ AFL Record cover that appears to remove the 5 from the 50m arc
- Branded record sellers giving away 2,000 free Records at selected matches to show the TAC has wiped off $5
- Light projections at the MCG
- An on ground activation involving Emergency personnel removing the 5 from each 50m arc before Friday night’s MCG match between Collingwood v West Coast
Wipe off 5 is a TAC campaign that aims to raise awareness of the dangers of low-level speeding, and I encourage all staff to consider their conduct on our roads including abiding by speeding and drink driving rules.
