On a warm late Winters evening two sides came out to play, one dressed in gold with a splash of green the other in red with black GT strips up the sides.
A tight first quarter the gold and green in Maroochydore SHS and red and black of St Andrews fought out.
With a northerly blowing in from the tropics the first quarter had six big ones kicked between both sides with Maroochydore peppering away at the goal front inaccurately giving a score of 4.6 but only an 18 point lead.
The second quarter saw a strong Maroochydore team take strong ascendancy, using the wind to advantage with long kicks to key spots in the forward fifty.
A Maroochydore score of 5.4 to zip had this game just about over.
But on plenty of previous JD Cup occasion we have seen the Saints of Andrews with a never say die attitude to fight a game out.
The second half was a far improved contest with Saint Andrews giving a RHG (red-hot go).
A second half score line of Maroochydore 4.5.29 to the Saints 3.3.21 underpinned the excitement of the contest the strong crowd witnessed.

The second game underway with the wind now cooling things a little under dark skies.
Game between two blues of Siena and Panthers of Meridan- Old faces of many years of AFLSCJ footy on both sides, even an umpire or two testing out the nous of play.
The Meridan Panthers certainly boosting some good depth of playing talent come bounding out of the starting gates with maximum asurity and aided by the help of a three goal breeze.
At the first break Meridan had troubled the goal umpire 11 times with a score of 5.6 whilst Siena struggled to push the footy into the forward 50.
The second quarter saw a more spirited effort from Siena as assistant guest coach Tristan Scott threw the magnets around giving a Mick Malthouse type address; will such give the Two Blues some needed lift?
Meridan in the second stanza kicked 2.3 to the Two Blues 3 behinds whilst having other opportunity.
The third quarter had the Two Blues nail their first major through solid team play and plenty of want.
Much more battle for the white Sherrin now within this game, crowd now involved. 3.2 to 1.1 that quarter showed a tighter contest but still the Panthers of Meridan stretched the lead.

At nights end two games that were both one sided on the scoreboard but full credit to the players of all teams they played with great spirit and sportsmanship in a good evening of JD Cup footy.
Highlight of the night was a 'Gazza Ablett' like goal snapped from the boundary some 40 meters out by young Lewis Scott could this be a playing come back for a field umpire?
Down at Kawana Park the wind whipped in from the north with at least a three goal advantage to any team that could tame the Sherrin.
Beerwah SHS faced the unbeaten Chancellor SHS in what was shaping up to be clash of the round following the form of the boys from Beerwah and the depth of Chancellor.
Chancellor were unfortunately under manned as more than a hand-full of players were away on camp but that didn't stop them throwing everything they had at Beerwah.
Beerwah leapt out of the blocks and made the most of kicking with the wind booting four goals and six behinds, proving the wind advantage was tricky to negotiate.
Chancellor had a crack at taming the Sherrin with significant wind assistance in the second registering two goals and four behinds, accuracy costing them deeply in a quarter they should have finished on top.
Heading into the second half, Beerwah were up 39 to 16 with the wind in the third, the maroons put the final nails in the coffin kicking six goals.
Beerwah 13.15.93 def Chancellor 4.5.29
