As the countdown begins for the AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors Sign on and the kick-off of the 2013 AFL season, Cadbury AFL9s competitions are gearing up across the Sunshine Coast.
Set for kick off in the first week of February both the Nambour and Hinterland and Kawana Park competitions are locked in and now open for registrations.
The Nambour and Hinterland AFC competition kicks off on Monday February 4, with Competition Coordinator, Darren Lockwood stoked for the Summer season.
“It will be great to have Cadbury AFL9s at our footy club and I’m confident we will have plenty of community interest with teams getting on board,” Lockwood said.
“We have four teams confirmed already which we feel is a minimum and a solid base to start with two weeks until competition kick-off.
“I filled in a couple of times in the Spring competition at Kawana Park and thought it was a fantastic version of AFL so in consultation with the committee here at Nambour and Hinterland AFC decided to become a Summer competition centre.”
With their senior team moving up to Division Two in the South-East Queensland AFL competition, Cadbury AFL9s will provide a solid pre-season training opportunity for the boys to get back into the swing of the game while having fun with family and friends.
The fields at Kawana Park will be lighting up for Cadbury AFL9s Summer season on Wednesday February 6.
Competition Coordinator, Debbie Linton will mark her one year anniversary in coordinating the Kawana Park Competition.
“The two seasons of AFL9s last year were really successful and it is just great for a junior club, like the Eagles, to be able to provide such a fun competition to the community,” Linton said.
“Our Spring season was our biggest so far, with 12 teams entered in two divisions which is capacity for our one oval.
“If the demand is there again this year we will look at running two competitions on separate nights so more teams can get involved.”
With the success of the Kawana Park Cadbury AFL9s season over the last year, the Nambour and Hinterland competition will no doubt provide their community with a fun, fast and friendly alternative to Summer sports in the lead up to the 2013 AFL season.
