With the 2012 Spring season of Cadbury AFL9s kicking off this week across the Sunshine Coast the opening preseason match was held on Mooloolaba Beach.
As the beach began to fill Debbie Linton from Kawana Park Eagles Junior Australian Football Club headed down to the beach to get a game of 9s underway for everyone to get involved.
AFL Queensland Participations Programs Coordinator, Marc Seen also made the trip up from Brisbane to be a part of the Sunshine Coast pre-season launch.
“It is great to see everyone having a kick down at the beach, the kids who joined in came down for a day of sun and surf were thrilled to have the added entertainment of a game of footy,” Seen said.
“AFL9s is great because anyone can play and with no contact, a smaller area and a softer ball it really is an appealing game for everyone.”
Beach AFL9s was a huge hit with Channel 7 Local News catching the action as the kids and adults, both male and female hit it out in the sand.
It was a great morning down at Mooloolaba Beach and with more than a few players expressing their interest in the Junior Competition as well as some new faces already signed up for the Mixed Competition.
Kawana Park AFL9s come and try was held on Wednesday October 3 with eight mixed teams descending on Kawana Park to try their hand at 9s and assemble teams.
First week of competition kicks off this week, now with ten teams, lined up for the mixed social competition which will conclude early December.
