he call of the surf won’t be what livens up Noosa on Sunday it will be the action of Weyba Road that stirs the sleepiness of those on Hastings Street. All lattes will lead to the home of the Tiger.
Weyba Road as the day rolls in will present with a nice puff of ocean breeze this can create opportunity for some wind advantage use wisely if it gets up – kick long and direct or defend hard.
And for that the host club they will have three teams doing battle on the main field over the course of the day. Two under 12 games to be played out on the back oval will add to a real carnival feel under what is sure to be great Sunshine Coast skies (at last).
9am – Under 12 Division 1 Second Semi: Caloundra V Coolum Beach
Caloundra players to watch: Toara Marango, Riley Cupid, Blake Jenner, Ashley Loughnan, Zac Gardiner, Jack Hedley and mates.
Coolum Beach players to watch: Tom Ansell (the “Breakers own” under 12 State representative), Ben Dickson, Thomas Griffiths, Eli Farrow, with plenty of others rounding out a solid team and then if Adam fires up it could be a Goodwin for the Breakers.
The back oval will see Caloundra colors out in force but two tight games they will face. The first game produces combatants who have only faced each other once this season way back in round 6 when Coolum Beach held sway by 16 points to a Caloundra team who had far greater scoring shots – Caloundra 5.11.41 to Coolum Beach 9.3.57. This game will be a cracker and dare I say it where many feel the premier will come from.
10.45am – Under 12 Division 2 First Semi: Maroochydore Green V Caloundra
Maroochydore Green players to watch: Carter Michael, Kalani Kliese-Walit, Liam Gilgen, no doubt all Roos will hop into this contest.
Caloundra players to watch: Jack Farrugia, Jake Patfield, Ben Fullarton, Levi Duane-Davis, Jake Kinred
In the second under 12s game which will see the winner go on to compete in the Preliminary final the following week, we have two young up and coming development teams, who both in 2013 will be strong division 1 teams in the main.
9am - Under 14 Division 1 Second Semi: Maroochydore Green V Noosa
Maroochydore Green players to watch: Jason Kennedy, Brodi Finn, Jackson Bury, Jake Warren, Toby Kerle, Adrian Fleming, Tim Herbert, James Vincent, Mitch Wallace and friends.
Noosa players to watch: Rhys Tarling, Jesse Higgins, Jed Loveridge, Adam Waldron, Reid Gordon, Harry Jenner, Jack Payne watching on will be young Corey Boardman still recovering from a knee injury sustained from his Suncoast Power days. Big Jared Wytenburg one to watch here if he can give his onballers first use of the ‘Sherrin’ then Noosa could be well on the way.
The main oval of Weyba Road is going to be chock full of action from 9am to 3pm, not a minute should be missed!
In the under 14s game Maroochydore Green have held sway in the two encounters played out in season twenty12 by about 5 goals on both occasions, so a tough day at the office for the Tigers. But funny things can and do happen in finals, home ground, a large positive cheering spectator group, well primed for an early start and always the thought of the what if whilst a direct passage in to a Grand Final can be reason enough to force a boil over. Expect a great tussle with both sides chock full of talent.
11am - Under Youth Girls Grand Final: Kawana Park v Noosa
Kawana Park players to watch: #1 Eva Agnew, #7 Chloe Coward (25 season goals), #10 Ainslie McCormick, #13 Brooke Kerrigan, #16 Taleha Maroney. Coached by Adrian McCormick.
Noosa players to watch: #7 Mackenzie Gordon (11 season goals), #9 Georgia Kenrick, #11 Georgie Bain, #13 Ruby Hamilton, #14 Chelsea McDonald. Coached by Leigh Bowes.
The Youth Girls Grand Final promises to be in the words of Bruce “special!”
When reviewing the Youth Girls season it is an interesting scenario that presents us on Sunday. The Eagles of Kawana Park have won all before them – 10 from 10 during the home and away season and then a narrow 1 point semi final win over Coolum Beach to sneak direct into the Grand Final.
On the other hand Noosa’s entry to the Grand Final is of great interest, 3 season wins plus a forfeit giving them equal wins with fifth placed Nambour & Hinterland; 9% the difference between finals or not on seasons end. Since then they have played do or die footy with solid wins over Maroochydore and Coolum Beach, and strong at the footy they were – very committed for the contest for 60 minutes of footy on both occasions. Is Bali the carrot that is making these girls go?
Come Sunday they will play a team who plays four quarters of footy in the Eagles, no giving away a start as they did in the first quarter v Maroochydore two weeks back and no letting Coolum kick a few too many in the last quarter as last week’s Preliminary finals, four quarters they will have to play against a most capable Kawana Park team.
In round 2 Kawana Park were just far too strong for the Noosa Tigerettes who at that point were still a developing team – 14.13.97 to 1.7.13 – Chloe Coward with a bag of five goals.
In the return game round 7 Kawana Park still got the chocolates 4.6.30 to the Tigerettes 3.2.20 but strong improvement made.
Can this week produce a continuation of that pathway of improvement?
Expect a cracker – and “who will answer when greatness calls?”
1pm - Under 16 Division 1 First Semi: Noosa V Bribie Island
Noosa players to watch: Natwar Patel, Jed Brain, Michael Jedynak, Mark Braithwaite, Jesse Malthouse, Jesse Loveridge, Robbie Rusan with a very even team commitment.
Bribie Island players to watch: Liam Tozer, Max Clough, Jacob Reeks, Fraser Jones, Cameron Darben and more of them dogs!
Come 1pm the Tigers hearts will be in over drive and to make matters even tougher a committed Bribie Island will turn up for a sixteens game that I believe offers plenty.
Yes Noosa have won all three season contests to date, rounds 4 and 8 quite convincingly. From the round 13 game I believe Bribie Island can take a lot of confidence, they pushed Noosa to the point of just a three point loss – 8.9.57 to 9.6.60 again a losing team having more scoring shots. That round 13 day Mark Braithwaite kicked five for the Tigers so close attention there from the Bulldogs could shut down a key avenue to goal.
On their day these Bulldogs are most capable “who let the dogs out” as the sprinkler game showed against Maroochydore, a night they knocked off top team with dogged never say die attack on the contest.
So all in all, you are guaranteed to witness a fantastic day of footy at Weyba Road, so remember cheer loud and positively as you witness many quality teams doing battle in what will be a number of epic games, proudly hosted by the Tigers of Noosa.
