The Under 12 Sunshine Coast School Boys team travelled down to the Gold Coast on the Queens Birthday long weekend to compete in the State Titles.
Sunshine Coast Coach Allen Eade said while the conditions were not ideal the entire team played solid footy against the best of the best from across the state
“What a week, there was around 250 Under 12 children from 11 regions and an invitational side from all across Queensland who competed on the weekend for state selection in the Queensland Primary Schools AFL Team to compete in the Australian Championships to be held in Adelaide in July,” Eade said.
“In wet and windy conditions the boys from the Sunny Coast prepared themselves for battle against the ten other competing regions and in each of their four games performed magnificently.”
The first day saw the Coast boys play eventual carnival supremos Met North.
“It was a tough and bruising encounter unfortunately we fell short of the mark and went down,” Eade said.
The weather turned for the worse on day two, with howling winds and torrential rain but the Sunny Coast boys toughed it out for a great win against powerhouse Met East.
Due to the wet weather, games were shifted from Southport Sharks Home Ground to Helensvale State High School.
Because of the weather conditions games were cancelled on day four.
Day five had the playing arch rival Met West for the Dunlop/Doherty Shield with the Sunny Coast boys triumphant.
The Sunshine Coast finished equal second for the carnival.
Well done to all boys on a magnificent week.
