Four AFL Sunshine Coast Junior players will have the chance to learn skills and garner knowledge from former Brisbane Lions player Anthony Corrie after being selected to participate in the 2012 U15 Queensland Kickstart Camp.
Samuel Stubbs and John Gorrie (Gympie Cats), Luke Maymuru (Pomona Demons) and Tai Hawkins (North Shore Jets) have been selected to attend the camp that will be held on the Gold Coast from March 5-7.
All participants at the camp will be accommodated at the Tallebudgera Active Recreation Centre with an intra club practice match to be played to aid selection in the final squad to compete at the National Kickstart Championships also on the Gold Coast which kick off on April 10.
Corrie grew up playing football in Darwin before moving to Queensland where his natural ability caught the attention of Brisbane selectors.
Despite being plagued by injury throughout his career, the plucky forward managed to notch up 56 senior games before he retired.
These days, nurturing young indigenous talent and promoting the game is top of mind for Corrie.
“That’s why I’m really excited about the appointment,” said Corrie.
“It’s a great opportunity to share my knowledge with the younger players and help them better their skills and achieve their goals.”
“Guys like Chris Johnson have paved the way in this area and I’m pleased to be following in their footsteps.”
Corrie says he is also passionate about giving back to the game, and State, that provided him with so much opportunity.
“To be able to work with AFLQ to further develop the game in Queensland is just fantastic.”
