He is arguably the most important Lion on the Brisbane Lions AFL roster and Bernie Gabba Vegas is in town today.
The Lions mascot has been instrumental in the Brisbane Clubs premiership wins and will be working hard to urge the Brisbane boys on to glory this winter.
But Vegas's other job is to help promote Australian football around the region.
Today he will lend his support to the Gympie Cats Australian Football Club at a Cool Cats sign-on day at Centro shopping centre.
Gympie Cats president Glenn Warren is urging all young players interested in playing AFL to come along, meet Vegas and sign up.
He said Bernie would be appearing from 10am to 2pm and people were welcome to come along and have their photo taken with the Lions mascot.
The club will have give- aways and games at the sign-on and every child who signs on to play AFL will receive a free footy sponsored by Craig Campbell of Campbell's Truck, Bobcat and Landscape Supplies.
Warren said the club was after players in all age groups, but in particular, he would like to get an under-15 girls side off the ground.
"There are currently four teams on the coast," Warren said.
"They are looking for more and the Cats would love to enter a girls side in the competition."
