The Sunshine Coast Regional Council have approved major grants for Coolum Beach Breakers Junior Australian Football Club and North Shore Jets Junior Australian Football Club.
This is acknowledgment of the quality grants submitted and the need to develop the small amount of ‘green space’ available within the Mudjimba and Coolum community.
Coolum Beach has had approved a grant submission for $30,000 to go towards the construction of its new clubroom and canteen facility.
The new facility will include extra storage space, a clubroom and state of the art canteen to service the Breakers, Coolum State High School and the community.
With Further funding from Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF), Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund (JCCBF) and AFL Queensland, the Breakers will see this new facility hopefully completed by Round 1 of 2012.
The club still awaits approval of the GCBF and JCCBF which is due sometime in December 2011.
North Shore has had approved a grant submission for $7,489.50 to complete the installation of full size goals on the fully lit oval at Mudjimba Multi Sport Complex.
This will enable the Jets to hold night matches throughout the season when the fields are available, offering the AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors and AFL Queensland another alternative for the very popular ‘Friday night footy’.
Northern Club Coordinator, Paul Menti said that both clubs have been working towards facility improvements to attract more participants and be more engaged in community development.
“The Coolum and Mudjimba areas are hard-up for sport and recreation space, especially space that is well designed and equipped with the appropriate infrastructure,” Menti said.
“Obviously the new facility ear-marked on Coolum State High School property for the Breakers is a sign of things to come for sport and recreation on the Sunshine Coast and it is great that AFL is leading the way.”
Congratulations, Coolum Beach Breakers and North Shore Jets.
Congratulations also to the Caloundra Panthers who received notification that they applied successfully to the Sunshine Coast Council for facility improvements.
Caloundra Panthers have been allocated $4,127.00 from the Sunshine Coast Council Major Grants- Sport and Recreation.
Thanks to some hard work by Jamie Glover and a strong relationship with the Caloundra Little Athletics Branch the field fence at North Street will be replaced.
“This is a great start to the season as our junior and senior teams begin pre-season,” Glover said.
“The fence around the ground off the car park has been a hazard for a season or two now and I think it will improve general safety for all facility users.”
As a result of the new fence Caloundra Little Athletics will benefit from an extra field lane which will add to their competition over the Summer months.
The relationship between the two tenants at North Street has improved significantly and will see the entire facility benefit from both clubs.
“Looking to the future we aim to upgrade the facility in a number of ways from the canteen to the field lights which we have significant plans in place to ensure this happens sooner rather than later,” Glover said.
