Chris Barrett never knows what to expect when the AFL Masters National Carnival rolls around - what former greats of the game will line up, who looks like they could still go around in the AFL, who has piled on the kilos.
Former Geelong and Fitzroy player Barrett will coach and play for the Queensland Supers (35+ years) side at the week-long carnival which starts at Maroochydore Multi Sport Complex this Saturday.
The 38-year-old, who now calls Bli Bli home, started his AFL career with Geelong before being picked up by Fitzroy in the 1991 national draft.
He accumulated four senior AFL appearances before going on to have a successful 10-year stint in the South Australian National Football League with West Adelaide and Port Adelaide.
Following a knee reconstruction he moved to Queensland where he pulled on the boots once again for the Sunshine Coast in the AFL Queensland Masters competition.
He said he expected his team to be more than competitive when the tournament began but was tipping some strong competition from Victoria Metro, who will be coached by Collingwood 146-gamer Ray Shaw.
"In the Supers team we've got together a pretty good side," Barrett said.
"We're going in there to win it. But it's one of those things, you just never know who's going to have who.
"Victorian Metro, four or five of their best guys might have to work or have family commitments. You never know until you turn up on the day. But we've got a really competitive side."
