For the first time since the inception of the award in 2005, the AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors have awarded a club back to back Club of the Year honours, with the Kawana Park Eagles taking out the 2011 title for the second year running.
In front of a large crowd at the league presentation night, Club President Paul Meehan accepted the award and paid tribute to his hardworking committee members and club volunteers.
The ‘Club of the Year’ title is awarded to a club based on a variety of factors including meeting attendance (AGM, Conference, Delegates Meetings and other forums), along with their general on field sportsmanship, game development within their community, marketing of themselves, Footyweb compliance and above all administration and communication with the League.
2011 has been another successful year for the Eagles, particularly in regards to the development of their facility at Kawana Waters State College.
The club was successful in their grant application with Sport & Recreation Queensland to gain full ground lighting, as well as gaining grant monies to provide a lit pathway from the canteen shelter to the shed, and further connecting to the school pathway to the toilets.
The club has also enjoyed a successful year on-field, maintaining an extremely solid player registration base of 150, whilst their award-winning in-season AFL Auskick program continued to kick goals for player participation and enjoyment.
The Eagles Under 14 and Under 16 teams will also compete in the AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors Grand Final day on Sunday 4th September.
The club was presented with a Club of the Year plaque, which will no doubt hang proudly in the ‘Shed’ at the college alongside their 2010 Club of the Year Award. The Eagles will also receive a 2012 Season Ticket Standard Family Membership, proudly donated by the Brisbane Lions Football Club.
Coolum Beach JAFC was named runner up club of the year, with Glasshouse Hinterland AFC taking out third place after both clubs enjoyed a successful 2011 season both on and off the field.
The AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors Management Committee would like to congratulate Kawana Park, Coolum Beach and Glasshouse Hinterland on their outstanding seasons, along with all of our other clubs and their volunteers who have worked hard to ensure that 2011 was another successful year for AFL on the Sunshine Coast.
