After having a look through the fixtures, there are certainly some beaut clashes set to take place again this week in AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors footy.
Again my prediction of MOTR for last weekend didn’t quite live up to expectation – maybe I had my 16’s Roo colours wrong? Last time, this week’s under 16 Green Maroochydore Roo played Pomona Demon’s we had a one point ball game with the lead at Fishermans Road changing hands a few times in the last quarter, with the Demons finally prevailing. This time I am sure another classic will present on Demon dirt, but I will steer clear of putting that dreaded kiss of death onto those who dare venture to demon dirt!
From all reports the MOTR last week should have been the 12’s division 1 clash of Maroochydore Golden Roo’s v Nambour & Hinterland – a draw – everyone’s a winner! This game saw third placed Maroochydore Gold host the sixth placed Nambour & Hinterland Blues and them Blues will be kicking themselves straight down the middle as accuracy possibly cost them the four points 37 apiece but 6.1 the Roos in front of the big sticks to the Blues 5.7 – 5 more scoring shots. The Golden Roo was 2 goals up at half time and only managed one more major after the long break whilst the Blues kicked 2.6 and five of those misses coming in the last 15 minutes of play. By all reports a great game and although the chocolates had to be shared all were most happy with their match efforts.
But we can’t live in the past, now can we.....? I remember when I was a boy ........ bla bla bla!
So this week round 12, “crikey” (and how was Agro’s move, with little Bob in amongst the action?) we are starting to get deep into season twenty11, I have been posted to the Noosa Tigers v Kawana Park Eagles under 14 game as a worthy MOTR – so Tommy we will go with you!
In looking at the ladder we see Caloundra Panthers on top just by a game but good percentage in support and then comes our MOTR teams in Kawana Park on 36 points and Noosa Blue two games back in third spot. Of interest to this ladder is the fact that Maroochydore Green fourth, and Bribie Island fifth, are on 24 points and battling for their supremacy to ladder position. A Noosa Blue Tigers loss could see these three teams all pegged on 28 points apiece by weekends end.
In gazing a little deeper into the ladder, those Tigers are well placed with a very healthy percentage, and at 234 points “against” over the past seven games they have been most miserly in allowing the opposition to score. But if you watch the Eagles closely a game plan of player development is most evident. Yet when the Eagles are on, they are on and present as the team with the greatest capacity to score within this division 1, 14’s competition – 546 points for over the past seven games.
Last time these two teams met in round 5 as Tommy informed us we saw a nail biting finish, some 2 points the separating margin at the end of 60 minutes of playtime. Closer analysis of the score line sees the Blue Tigers getting off to a cracker with a 20 point quarter time lead, the Eagles only managing a solitary point in the first stanza. And still near 3 goals up were the Tigers at the main break. The second half saw a third quarter blitz from the Eagles as they scored 4.3 to just 3 minors for the Tigers, so a lead of seven points at the last break. Credit to the Tigers they ground hard in the final quarter to get the game down to a two point game.
For Kawana Park their goals where kicked by Brent Morris 2, Zac Galbraith 2, Josh Linton, Ben Meehan and Dylan Menti with 1 each. Best players as listed Louis McCormick, Josh Linton, Ben Meehan, Brad Paine, Ed Atkins and Dan Young.
Whilst for Noosa Blue Jesse Malthouse 3, Riley O'Dwyer 2, Liam Cass and Rhys Tarling were the goal kickers. Better Tigers players on the day Michaella Teevan, Xander Evans, Riley O'Dwyer, Joskie Robinson, Molly O’Dwyer, and Connor McDonald
So this time around, Noosa Tigers will go into a battle royal on home turf full of confidence after a solid win last start – game plan going well at Tiger land. They will look to hold the free flowing Eagles at bay with tight checking and man on man accountability across the total paddock, as they did in the first half of the game last time they met.
But with Ben Glover, Meehan, Menti, Morris, Aaron Allman, Jozef Leman and friends forming a tight unit around the centre of the ground and then ability to push forward and score as a cohesive unit.
But look back the other way and Tiger leadership comes from Tom Hancock and Jesse Malthouse with a troop full of support acts in Angus Johnston, McDonald, O’Dwyers in Molly and Riley, Tarling and friends and as capable those Tigers are.
So with the clock shortly after 11am on Sunday 19th as you will see a game of great developing under 14 football – good luck all! Sit back, smile, cheer positively and enjoy!
