How will Junior footy shape up this weekend on the Sunshine Coast? Games aplenty with AFL Junior under 8’s and 10’s at Fishermans Road, Coolum Beach, Glasshouse Hinterland and Pomona fields, whilst youth footy is at eight fields across islands, hinterland and beach venues.
No doubt the Demon will stir as all five teams are at home under the watchful eye of Mount Cooroora, with teams of Noosa Tigers and Maroochydore Roos visiting.
The under 16 game at 12.35pm promises to be a beauty as the Golden Roo will be desperate for the four points to stay in touch with the top four.
If past history counts, the Golden Roo gave the Demons one of their rare losses in season twenty11 with a 13 point victory. In fairness this game was played the weekend of the State Under 16 carnival and the Dee’s “Krakouer” brothers of Alex and Billy were missing along with Forbes and Lawrence. But for the Golden ones that day they were without Brandon Maki (injured) and Tate Parbery.
Goal kickers for the Golden Roos that day were the two small in and unders of BlakeKennedy 4, Josh Dolan 3, and Matthew Harris 2. Lead with best players: John Henderson, Cameron Stevenson (recovering from injury), Blake Kennedy, Josh Dolan, Dylan Mortimer and Matt Harris.
For the locals with that game also at the Demons Den goals were produced from Michael Daddow 3, Harry White 3, and Beau Stolberg giving best players of Stolberg, White, Lane Hoffmann, Michael Knight, Liam Hennings and Cory Boulton.
With both sides said to be near top strength, just Beau Stolberg missing for the Dees as he recovers from a knee injury, expect a cracker of a game to liven up the sleepy hamlet of Pomona Sunday arvo. Last week the Dees were pushed hard by a Nambour & Hinterland 16’s team that looks like it may have rediscovered some of its early season mojo. Whilst they tell me at Fish Park last Friday night against their club mates the Golden Roo let the Green Roo out of the top paddock in the last quarter to slam on six unanswered goals and turn a 22 point last break deficit into a 14 point win – who do they think they are them green Roos – the mighty Hawks?
So expect a beauty in this my match of the round and get up to Pomona for a pie, a good positive cheer and some fantastic Junior footy action.
