Stella Maris Primary & Mountain Creek State High School have both progressed through to the next level of the Gold Coast SUNS Cup and Northern States Cup respectively, after winning both games in Bundaberg last Wednesday June 1 against schools from the Bundaberg/Wide Bay & Rockhampton regions.
After a long bus trip up to Bundaberg, both the Stella Maris & Mountain Creek boys came out strongly and stamped their authority on the competition by easily defeating their first opponents.
Stella Maris went on in their second game to again demolish their opposition, holding them goalless.
Mountain Creek had a tough low scoring 2nd game with the Creekers being behind on the score board for most of the first 3 quarters and had to dig deep to come from behind to win by 15 points.
Stella Maris Primary who are competing in the Gold Coast SUNS Cup now advance on to the new Metricon Stadium down on the Gold Coast on Thursday August 4, to play either the Cairns, Townsville or Mackay region in their Semi Final. The Gold Coast SUNS Cup has taken over the Future Stars Cup in 2011 and is for boys in year 6 & 7 and is played under modified rules on a shortened ground. Stella Maris went on to win the whole competition when it was named the Jason Akermanis Cup way back in 2003.
Mountain Creek State High School are now into the Semi Finals of the Northern States Cup and advance down to Zillmere on Wednesday July 13, to also take on either the Cairns, Townsville, or Mackay region. The Northern States cup is an Under 15 competition for boys with normal AFL rules and a full sized ground, although it is played at 15-a-side.
We wish both teams the best of luck for their Semi Final matches.
