The back end of this weekend’s footy brings us to the halfway mark of season twenty11 so things are really moving along. Most have settled into good routine and working to give all maximum opportunity to enhance their skills, knowledge and love for the great Australian game.
Last weekend saw some good footy played although many score lines didn’t reflect that, endeavour and pride in the jumper and performance from all was sound. A few “upsets” amongst the Sherrin action gives hope to all that on any given day a team as a team can play a solid brand of footy.
Round nine sees the Nambour & Hinterland Blues having to take up residency at an away venue as the host club. Much turf laid last weekend at the woods in a herculean effort to continue the field rectification works that they have struck down their home following early year floods. This Sunday sees the round 9 Nambour & Hinterland teams of six, host from Fishermans Road third oval – help them out buying a snag and a drink at their field canteen.
So with all clubs striving to their best, we see action is from Fishermans Road this Friday evening as the Roo’s host teams of Caloundra by two, Coolum Beach and Gympie in four games that will be worth the viewing.
Sunday action has venues of eight pumping out Junior AFL action, Caloundra, Bribie Island, Noosa, Fishermans Rd, Kawana Park, North Shore, Pomona and Gympie.
The Demons of Pomona have all their blue legs on home soil, a little boggy the deck on Reserve Street at present but always a venue of atmosphere. After having Brisbane Lions players of Patfull, Sheldon, McCauley, Harwood and Collier visit mid week helping put those Demons through their paces, they will be at their challenging competitive best against Roo’s, Cats and Tigers. So I am sure the Demons den will rock on Sunday in what is a huge weekend of AFL action under the watchful eye of Mt Cooroora – seniors Saturday in a top of the table clash between two undefeated teams – Pomona and Pine Rivers in the State Association Division 3 comp.
In this day and age we seldom see footy days of club v club but come Sunday at Kawana Waters State College the Eagles nest will be activity plus as the Lions of Glasshouse roam from the jungle to the seaside. Under 12’s, 14’s and 16’s will give a feast of activity – I hope the pineapple is on order! All three games promise to be very tight affairs, so strap yourself in for the ride - if game, to be at the Eagles nest come Sunday.
For a few teams we see players away this weekend doing Schoolboy 15’s duty up in the wild north of Townsville. This coupled with a number of injuries around the ridges will see teams challenged in a different way; just getting competitive teams on to the paddock is the aim for some. Again the message is clear here just balance team numbers, maximize participation opportunities and get a game going as we ain’t playing for sheep stations.
