The lead up to round eight has seen clubs and the league need to swing a few games to other venues, Nambour & Hinterlands “woods” venue shaping up for some areas of returfing this weekend and the High School getting precious for the Breakers. Thank you to all those sending their cars in different directions for their understanding.
In the under 12 division 1 competition we see Nambour & Hinterland Blues to take on the Maroochydore Green Roos. The Blues last week had a very strong finish to their game against Coolum Beach whilst the Green Roo was most competitive against equal top team the Blue Tiger – same number of scoring shots but not getting the chocolates by 10 points. For the Blues this is a critical game as it will keep them in the mix with most of the other teams for nailing third or fourth spot.
Caloundra Panthers host near neighbours Kawana Park Gold in a game that will offer third spot a small break to the other four teams clambering behind. The Golden Eagle is beginning to soar and coming off a win last week against the previously undefeated Maroochydore Golden Roo they are travelling hot (just ask the coach) – so coming off the dreaded bye (the one Mick Buckhouse has had comment about) Caloundra will need to wake early (9am start) and get amongst the Sherrin action.
Noosa Blue host their near neighbour in Coolum Beach Breakers with a 10.15am start, still dawn opportunity for a surf and then hit the back turf of Weyba Rd – possibly could arrive still on board from the back waters. The Breakers will be looking to rebound and with the same intensity at the ball as shown last week they are capable to take this right up to them Tigers.
Top team Maroochydore Gold get the bye which some may say started a little early as they let slip last week – chance to freshen up and look to matches ahead OR the stock standard “one week at a time”.
So in the comp swelling with team numbers – 12 teams of division 2 under 12’s we see games a plenty and they will be of high quality as these youngsters get to further their skill and game sense base as they look to burgeoning careers in AFL. Participation and development the key to a good coach’s kit bag.
The two Maroochydore Roo teams of Gold and Green are at HQ this Friday night to welcome to the challenge teams of Kawana Park Blue and Caloundra – the gates are open and a big crowd can get front row seats.
The Hinterlanders of Glasshouse and Nambour White will do combat as jungle turf is their warfare - the Sherrin the missile to glory – take this game in at your own peril! A huge crowd pregame will have gathered as 8’s and 10’s shoot for glory in their own carefree manner – play on, gotta love it.
The Bribie Island Bulldogs v Pomona Demons under 12 game has every beauty salon on the Island booked out from 5am as both teams players look to pretty themselves for this match – my bet is we will see plenty of players with blue rinse’s, be careful young men! This game promises to be a beauty as the Dogs look to bark at their own kennel but them mountain men love a challenge and boost a very capable young outfit. Catch this game on Fox Footy as Facebook brings you all the action – smile for the camera boys.
North Shore again head up to the paradise of Noosa Heads after making this same sun worshiping pilgrimage last week, then taking on the Golden Tiger. This week sees the Red Tiger as their target, Jets circling this may be the best method of transport as the local police informant tells me roads of Noosa this Sunday will be more challenging with a winter sports marathon bike ride to add to the fun.
The Catters of Gympie are again on their own pile of kitty litter, plenty of home games to get them started will soon turn to heading past the 60k sign regularly. This week the other Noosa Tigers team of Gold pays a visit and no doubt during this week had the Gold coach chiselling in crazy fashion into his club mates minds in search of the perfect game plan to upset them Cats.
The under 14’s division one competition is also shaping up with a couple of teams, the rest need to set themselves to knock off not just rock up. Whilst the Glasshouse Hinterland Lions are taking to the challenge but yet to find the taste of victory – great to see them playing at the highest level challenging their players and adding to their long term development – well done Phill, Wayne and crew.
This week the Lions head to Bribie Island and in another match that royalties will be sought as the world takes to facebooking this “battle of the bone” action a grand game – this lot will spend all Saturday grooming at the blue rinse salon in readiness. The Lions still missing Ben Fleiter through a knee injury will need all to stand up against a dog that always barks loudly on home turf. Both teams last week in their respective games going down to the competition heavyweights of Kawana Park and Caloundra respectively, so with steel gauged from that encounter with the tough they should come switched on for the challenge – tune in Monday for your fix if unable to make the game.
As mentioned we will witness a “Match of the Round” this round as the Caloundra Panthers host Kawana Park Eagles in a top of the table clash – 10.15am North Street – the place to be. Hunt, Jackson, Hipwood, Hodgson, Jenner, Barnes, Patton and friends v Glover, Leman, Meehan, Menti, Morris and the Allman crew will be looking for future bragging rights as the game takes on blockbuster status. Do yourself a favour, North Street it!
Noosa Blue host Maroochydore Gold at Weyba Rd Sunday 10.20am in what will be another match of great interest as players look for the edge as the Suncoast Power under 14 team comes closer to fruition. The Golden Roo will be looking for a bounding start after knocking over their club mates in a wrestle of high proportion last Friday night at the Fish Bowl. Striving to stay in touch with those above them will be added reason for the Golden Roo to crash the winter sports marathon of Noosa.
The Green Roo this week travels to Gympie town looking to re-discover its mojo, but no trip to the Cattery is easy winding north up that old Bruce. This game presents as opportunity for the teams to be level pegging or a widening between the have the points and the have nots.
In the under 14 division two competition we saw the crowd favourites of the combo’s in Caloundra and Glasshouse Hinterland get the chocolates last start against the Pomona Demons. This week with just enough numbers the combo’s will head to Noosa town to take on the Red Tiger and no doubt anxiety levels will be high for both platoons as the chocolates unwrap.
The North Shore Jets are a strong unit and with Private Ryan and Corporal Bennett at the front this squadron takes some mighty effort to bring down. This week those demons need to rebound and at the runway of Mudjimba is the battlefield that will need “saving”.
Coolum Beach is the third game of this competition and them Breakers have been pushed from home, where is that community spirit – I imagine it will come marching south in big motion breaking into Fish Park for a solid catch. The Maroochydore Roo team had the back legs up last weekend and with renewed enthusiasm will look to send these Breakers back to where they came from and should have stayed!
Under 16 footy is going gang busters in division one we see two teams lead the way with six wins from seven starts, whilst the other four teams are just taking it one week at a time all with 3 wins. As last week’s Noosa Blue v Maroochydore Gold score indicates a 22 point margin for the Blue Tiger still has them most capable, whilst their brother in Green nearly stole the show against a Pomona team that is highly regarded. In fact with the wind at back, the Green Roo kicked long late in the game to grab the lead but lose it at deaths end – poor Jess will have chewed Demonish nails to the bone with that one!
So turning to this round tonight, Nambour & Hinterland Blues have been forced to switch venues and see themselves on the turf of the Roos. The Golden Roos on same points and just above the Blues by percentage will be a willing game as both teams look to get the jump on the other as a top four spot is aim.
The other Roo crew of Green take to the Weyba Road paddock looking to graze on Blue Tiger in what is another most important match as one team looks to sure up third spot at this point nearing half way of the season. Expect a fantastic clash to top of a big day in Noosa town with the bike marathon a distant second fiddle to this type of Aussie action.
But what do we have to really set Sunday alight; we have a stand alone match of the season game at Demonland that sees the top two teams in our premier competition do battle at 9.30am – wow what a cracker. Fingers gone this time for poor Jess as she chews wildly. These two teams are yet to meet in season 2011, so what a match up we have of epic proportion much like that round 8 clash in that other competition, Geelong v Mudpies last Friday night. This game will tell us much as the season shapes to the second half, as a stand alone game obviously the fixture master saw it as all the traffic, parking, queuing and spectator volume that Pomona town could handle on one Sunday morning – expect a huge crowd with plenty of colour and possibly just that odd dog to spectate.
Division two of the under 16’s also shapes up to be very interesting, top side Kawana Park Eagles have this weekend to simply nest down after a tough match last week against Bribie Island that saw the Bulldogs get the bite.
This weekend the Bullies are at home and the Glasshouse Hinterland Lions are travelling to the Island this will be no holiday but a good contest is on the cards as both teams are at the business end of the ladder.
Gympie host Noosa Gold, the Tigers of Gold looking to find their feet after teams settled post grading rounds all good now it’s time for footy and a good game will top the card at the Cattery for Sunday.
The Jets of North Shore will welcome the Breakers of Coolum come 11.30am Sunday leading into the Jets home under 18’s match. Both teams will be keen to taste the chocolates in this match and close at day’s end will have the crowd on the edge of their seats. The first year for Breakers under 16 footy sees coach Craig and can do Randall excited in what is achieved and what further inroads can be made into quality youth footy within their community – possibly the local High school will chant AFL in the future.
So some fantastic Junior AFL action beckons this weekend right across the coast. So get out and enjoy it all, for what is true kids sport giving social team sporting opportunities in a great Aussie way – AFL!
