Austin Lucy says he is more than happy playing in the North East AFL and has no plans to have a crack at a second chance in the AFL.
The Caloundra Panthers product was drafted by Essendon in 2005 with pick 66 but never managed to play a senior game.
After being delisted in 2007, he returned to Queensland to play for Zillmere in the QAFL.
Zillmere folded and the half-forward signed with the Morningside Panthers for the 2009 season.
The Panthers have won the QAFL senior premiership for the past two years and are gunning for a third straight title, in the newly formed NEAFL.
Lucy, 23, said he had been enjoying his football more than ever since joining Morningside.
“I love it there,” he said.
“In my first two seasons we’ve gone on and won the premiership both years.
“It’s been a great move for me.”
Lucy said the opportunity to play in a new competition in 2011 had him excited.
“With Northern Territory being in the competition there’s a good chance to travel,” he said.
“If we can have a win or two, we’ll get to go to Canberra and maybe Melbourne as well.
“There’s also always the opportunity to play state footy and play in Perth this year.
“It’s a good league. It’s coming along really well.
“Travis Johnstone (former Brisbane Lion) is playing for Redlands this year and it’s getting a lot stronger and healthier.”
Lucy, who finished an exercise-science degree last year, said he was flirting with the idea of taking a break next season.
“I’ll be at Morningside for this year but after the year’s done I might have a reassess,” he said.
“I’m done with uni and want to go travelling, so I’ll do that next year or the one after.
“It feels like it could be the right time to have some time off footy.”
