It is the time of year to commence the recruitment for the Suncoast Power’s Under 14’s side with this year marking a change in direction with the Suncoast Power at Under 14 level. The Wide Bay Region will now form part of the “recruiting” zone for players for the Suncoast Power side at the Under 14 State Championships.
The first step in the process for recruitment is that 23 players from the North side and 23 players from the South side of the Sunshine Coast will be selected to play in the round robin day as outlined below. The North side will encompass the Gympie, Pomona, Noosa, Coolum and North Shore clubs while the South will include Glasshouse Hinterland, Caloundra, Kawana Park, Maroochydore and Nambour & Hinterland clubs.
The North and South teams will be chosen as a result of the selectors observing the first few rounds of the AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors season and discussions will be held with club coaches to formulate the 23 players for each region.
The process for recruitment is as follows:
1. On Saturday April 24th, both a North and South Sunshine Coast under 14’s side will play in a round robin day against the Wide Bay at Gympie AFC.
2. The Sunshine Coast will then provide a development side to play in the State Country South Championships on May 15 and 16 at Glasshouse Hinterland AFC where they will compete against Darling Downs, Northern Rivers (NSW) and Wide Bay.
3. Suncoast Power Under 14 selectors will select a squad of 30 players that will then be narrowed down to a final 25 to compete at the AFL Queensland State Under 14 Championships at Maroochydore on June 28, June 30 and July 2.
This year Tristan Scott will be the coach of the side with last year’s coach Stuart Jackson assisting along with Mitch Hyde. AFL Queensland Development Officer Paul Medveczky will be the program manager while AFL Queensland Club Development Officer and AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors Administrator Paul Tresise will again be the team manager.
