It's not often Brisbane Lion Josh Drummond gets to venture to his old stomping ground.
But the Maroochydore product will get to spend some welcome time on the Sunshine Coast during next week’s community camp.
Plenty of Lions talent will hit the Coast next Thursday on a two-day mission to help spread a bit of Sherrin fever before the start of the AFL season.
“It’ll be a good chance to promote the game, run some clinics for kids and get away from the city,” Drummond said.
“We’re pretty lucky to have the Sunshine Coast just up the road.
“It’s not a bad place to head up to.
“The boys are looking forward to it before we come back to Brisbane and really get into some hard training before the season starts.”
The Lions spent a week in camp at Noosa late last year and Drummond said the experience helped the team bond after a successful season under first-year coach Michael Voss.
“Noosa was good fun. It was good to get up there and get to meet the new guys,” he said.
“A lot of stuff he (Voss) implemented last year has been continued and it’s starting to come together.
“Hopefully we can push a little further this season.”
Drummond enjoyed his best season last year, missing just three games because of injury.
“I’ve been back in full training since Christmas and it’s all going good,” he said.
“It’s an ongoing battle with my body but I just want to play every game this year, or more than I did last year.
“I took a couple of extra steps forward last year and I’d like to take more this year.
“If we can go a little bit further in the finals this year that would be great.”
