The Sunshine Coast Independent School Sports Association’s 12-week AFL competition wrapped up last week, with schools battling it out for finals glory.
Nine independent schools took part in the program with students from years 4 to 9 eligible to learn more about Australian football and enhance their skills.
AFL Queensland development officer Mal Pearson said the program gave kids a chance to have a kick while getting to know students from other schools.
“The competition provides for boys to transfer their skills from other codes or disciplines to AFL,” Mr Pearson said.
In the under-10 grand final, St Andrew’s Anglican College defeated Matthew Flinders Anglican College 70-23 in a stellar team effort with Tom Broadbent being awarded best-on-ground.
Joshua Keenan took out best-on-ground honours in the under-12s where Matthew Flinders flipped the cards on St Andrew’s, beating them 41-18.
Pacific Lutheran College defeated St Andrew’s in the under-13s with best-on-ground being awarded to the entire PLC team for an inspiring team effort.
The under-15 division was taken out by Nambour Christian College, downing Good Shepherd Lutheran, with Daniel Potter being rewarded for an outstanding game as best-on-ground.
All finals were played in a supportive team atmosphere that encouraged leadership, skill development and a bit of fun for everyone.
