Veda gears up for an ultimate AFL Experience - parades, podiums and premiership medals!
Pomona girl, Veda Ingram, is preparing to take centre stage during next week’s Toyota AFL Grand Final when she steps onto the premiership podium in front of 100,000 fans at the MCG and millions of television viewers across the country.
Veda, a participant at the Pomona NAB AFL Auskick centre flies into Melbourne on Thursday and will be absorbed into the spirit of Grand Final Week from day one. First stop is the NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year Awards Dinner, where she will find out if she’s the inaugural winner of the NAB Auskicker of the Year Award. The winner will receive $5,000 in a NAB Smart Junior Saver account and personal footy mentoring from Geelong star Joel Selwood in 2010.
On Friday, Veda will take to the streets of Melbourne in the traditional Toyota AFL Grand Final Parade. The twenty-two Auskicker of the Year nominees will walk in the parade as a group alongside the two competing Grand Final teams and a myriad of other AFL greats.
On the last Saturday in September, Veda will live the dream of every young footy fan when she participates in the Toyota AFL Grand Final pre-match entertainment before playing on the MCG during the half time break and presenting a premiership medal to a player from the winning team.
Veda’s mum, Jayne, said she can’t stop talking about her trip to Melbourne and is very much looking forward to getting the Grand Final Experience underway.
“She feels like she’s won already. She’s one of six children and is a little sad about leaving her brothers and sisters behind but at the same time she’s really grateful for this amazing opportunity. Veda is part aboriginal and is really proud of her heritage and especially proud to be one of only a couple of girls picked”, Jane said.
In 2009, NAB has been celebrating four years with the AFL Auskick program and has been rewarding Auskick centres and participants across the country through four new initiatives; NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year, NAB AFL Auskick Assistance Fund, NAB AFL Auskick Centre of the Year and NAB Footy Frenzy.
