It’s time to pull the raincoat and gumboots out and clear your yard of loose items, because the Sunshine Coast Storm are bringing a hurricane to the Under 17 State Championships which begins this weekend in Brisbane.
The best of the U/17 Sunshine Coast Youth Girls league will converge at Yeronga, bringing an almighty brand of footy that can only be described as a force of nature.
With the campaign officially launched on Wednesday night when the girls were presented with their jumpers by Head Coach Stuart Jackson, who said that the girls were psyched and well prepared for their first hit out.
‘The girls are really excited,’
‘The girls have been having some sleepless nights, but I think all that nervous energy will be put to good use.’
With a number of representative players in the squad, the Storm are keen to build on last year’s competitive performance.
On top of the Jumper presentation, the leadership group was announced with Bella Freeman, Bella Madrona and Morgan Whitney named Vice-Captains and 10 year AFL ‘veteran’ Thalia Randall named Captain.
Coach Jackson said that the decision was made easy when the team votes mirrored the coaching group’s selections.
Captain Thalia Randall said that the leadership group was very excited for the competition and keen to make a statement in the competition, especially against the Gold Coast.
‘The Gold Coast Sunsets will make for tough competition,’
‘They’ve got a few girls who we played against at the National Schoolgirls comp so they would be the team we want to beat the most.
Jesse Sills took out best-on-ground with a stellar display kicking four goals and leading the Storm to a 41 point victory over Brisbane North, effectively signalling their intentions as a force to be reckoned with.
The #StormWarning is loud and clear right across the state.
I just hope they brought an umbrella.
Stay tuned for match reports after every game which can be found on the AFL Sunshine Coast Youth Girls Facebook page, as well as on the AFL Sunshine Coast website.
