After an overwhelming response to the ‘Walk Away Chill Out’ session hosted by Paul Stanley at the Southport Sharks AFL Club, AFL Gold Coast Juniors are honoured to dedicate Round 5 to the Matthew Stanley Foundation.
Paul Stanley’s 15 year old son Matthew was a victim of violence at a party in 2006 and died of his injuries the next day.
After an outpouring of grief following Matthew’s death, Paul & wife Kay Stanley formed the Matthew Stanley Foundation to reduce the likelihood of any other families having to endure their pain.
The Matthew Stanley Foundation partners with individuals, community groups, businesses and elected representatives to promote youth safety initiatives.
AFL Gold Coast Juniors Club Coordinator Dean Vigus said that the session was an invaluable experience.
“Matthew was a keen young sportsman, someone both players and their parents can relate too,” Dean said.
“Having Paul Stanley deliver his story first hand meant that the message had a big impact on the juniors, hopefully what they learnt at the session will stay with them for years to come.”
During Round 5, which is the weekend of May 10-12, AFL Gold Coast Juniors youth teams are asked to wear blue armbands to raise awareness of the Matthew Stanley Foundation.
